Hello is it worth upgrading i5 8600 (non k) to i9 9900K or 9700K ? I am about to upgrade my gpu to rtx 2070 super maybe even 2080ti and my screen to 144hz 1440p. I am photographer so also edit a lot of photos ( but i doubt there would be difference with stronger cpu). Should i keep my cpu or upgrade ? What aprrox fps difference would there be ? Or is my cpu good for 144hz 144Op gaming? My mobo is cheap mini itx H310 so i should upgrade that as well, it should support i9 9900K after bios update but i doubt this mobo i suitable ? Thank for advice

Lol. This depends on dozens of factors..... what game , what settings , what OS , what driver , what other programs are running , what internet connection speed , what current fps are , what drive speed , how much ram......

As for the actual question , again , depends on a lot more information

in general..... if whatever game you play needs the cpu speed and your current cpu is maxing out , then yeah it'll help. Just make absolute sure the cpu is supported on that board.

Well based on your other post from earlier today, if you already have a 1080Ti, then upgrading to even a 2080ti would only net you a 25% - 35% increase in FPS. IMO not worth it for the price.

Upgrading from an 8600 would only give you a small increase in fps in most games, maybe 5 - 10 FPS so your current cpu is fine in most games

And yes, you should DEFINITELY upgrade your H310 motherboard if you upgrade to a 9900k. The H310 boards are not intended to handle intel's high TDP CPUs and don't support overclocking. At least a Z370 is recommended.

Solution is to not have got the 8600 to begin with, sadly.

At this point upgrades are not worth the money.

Intels new Comet Lake CPUs are showing up in a few months (Q1 2020) including the supposed/roumored ´i7-10700K’, so I personally myself am waiting for that, and would recommend others do so as well at this time (so close to next-gen Intel launch)

I do believe that the i5-8600 can cause a serious bottleneck for such a card, You probably would of been able to try save up or raise the budget a bit more to get an i7 somewhere in the 3k-4k range, But now that you already have the i5-8600 I doubt you can try to make profit or try to get back the money you spent on the CPU, If you can refund it I highly advise you to before it is too late
