Hey folks,

I've just been given my friend's old RX570 Strix OC 4GB (he's upgrading to a 1070Ti) and I'm wanting to use it in my Dell XPS 8300 with an i7-2600 and H67 motherboard (no UEFI BIOS, only Legacy).

Having looked into it online, there would either be a problem regarding the system not booting up (due to incompatibility) or the PCIE slot not giving enough power (75W required).

I've run an RX 570 on older hardware without any problems. I would recommend using the system in its current state to update the BIOS, though.

All PCIe x16 slots (unless I'm missing something) are capable of delivering 75W. If the board says something like 35W on it, then it's either not PCIe x16 mechanically or the OEM just isn't confident that their PSU can handle the load.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Last BIOS update was in 2012 so I doubt that it would benefit much.

I mean, have you tried plugging the RX 570 in to see if it works? Download DDU, wipe your current GPU drivers in safe mode, power down, plug it in, turn it on. I think the XPS 8300 originally came with an HD 5770, in which case you should be good for power.

I'm waiting for my guy to get his 1070Ti in (he'll be getting a 6 to 8 pin adapter I'll need) before I install the 570. Just looking at potential issues beforehand so the installation goes as smooth as possible.

There's really nothing easier to take back out than a GPU. Everything I know about the XPS 8300 says your card will work fine, but there's really only one way to find out.

God, I hope this works. I've been wanting to get into games like ROTR and the Metro series for a while now so this upgrade is essential.

Just nuke the existing drivers first with DDU and have the Radeon drivers ready to install as soon as you boot back up. Should be fine.
