Hello everyone,

If I were to under-volt my i7-7800X and have a 360mm (33mm thick) and a 280mm (33mm thick) radiator (dual rad), would be be enough to keep my CPU under 80 degrees?

Edit: I will be using Corsair Hydro X custom loop.

My video card is a quadro P2000 and it will NOT be part of the loop.

These are my current hardware:

- Mobo: Gigabyte Aorus X299 Gaming 9
- CPU: Intel Core i7 7800X
- Cooling System: Corsair H100i GTX [want to swap this out, it's dying right now)
- Ram: Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 64GB 3000mhz CL15
- GPU: Nvidia Quadro P2000 + V1 Tech Backplate
- Storage: Intel 600P NVME SSD 500GB (Boot) + Intel 600P NVME SSD 1TB (Storage)
- PSU: SeaSonic SS-520FL2 [520watt Fanless]
- Chassis: Corsair Crystal 460X

My workload is mainly After Effect editing and rendering is done externally so it's mostly a RAM intensive work.... (yea, I know it may sound weird but it's actually ram intensive lol)

I doubt it would be enough. I'd guess the results would be like trying to cool the cpu with a H100i GTX but with a 300rpm fan.

You'd need something larger and less dense like passive air coolers or the radiators used for heating rooms for the warm air to effectively rise.

Why not just run quiet low rpm fans though? It wouldn't be much noisier than just running the pump and certainly quieter than the P2000.

How's your current AIO dying?

I had my current aio for about 3 yeas (I got it whenever the H100i GTX was released) and now it is making rattling noise from pump.
This aio also kinda sucks, if I bring my Noctua cooler from my other computer that will always out perform this aio but I hate the size of air coolers.

What do you think about 360mm rad (54mm thick) x 2?

I don't really mind the noise but less fan = less dust lol
I open up my case and clean my desktop about every 2 weeks but it would be nice if I can do it once a month.

I don't leave my computer in a dusty place, I just get annoyed by every little spec of dust...

Have you tried contacting Corsair for a cooler replacement?

You're probably referring to the XR7. The fpi is likely too high. For passive cooling, you'd want wide spaced fins that allows for hot air to rise and provide airflow.

Like this: https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/alphacool-ready2go-stacker-(passive),1.html

For passive cooling to work well, you'll probably have to have the rads outside the case and aligned so that warm air can rise between the fins. There, dust can settle anyway and it'd be much bulkier than a NH-D15. I don't think it's a practical solution if your main aim is to avoid dust.

If you want to reduce dust accumulation, just filter your intakes.

I see, thanks for the answers. I guess I will just add a really slow RPM fans on a 360 rad.

Mind if I tag you after I finish my set up to say thanks for advice?

Sure! I look forward to seeing the results.

If you don't already have fans and budget isn't an issue, NF-A12x25's are probably the best 120mm fans available. If you want black fans instead, Silent Wings 3's are a great alternative.

I am split between Noctua and Corsair's Magnetic Levitation fans (with rgb).
I have a few noctua fans at home cuz of their amazing performance but I like some bling on my main computer (don't judge me XD).

also this is my idle temp right now... used to be all under 30 before this H100i GTX started making rattling noise.

If you don't mind the higher noise, ML's aren't a bad choice. If you already have Noctuas, you could just add some rgb fan frames like Phanteks Halos.

As mentioned, you should try contacting Corsair for a replacement and explain the rumbling / higher temps. The H100i GTX has a 5 year warranty.

@WoodenMarker

My Cooling System is not complete but I was testing with a 120 + 360 mm radiator without fan.

I will add 1 fan on the 120mm later.

But 2 hours rendering (90-99% CPU usage) shows temp as 87 degree max.

Is that with the side panel open? Where are the rads placed?

It's with both side panel and front panel off and room is at about 18C.

Update:

I'm currently running with 1 x Corsair ML120 RGB fan on the 120mm Radiator.

Temps are noticeably better, especially on ram and VRM.
