Monitor Is Brighter at Top of Screen (LG 27GL850-B)

Is it normal for an IPS monitor to be visibly brighter at the top of the screen compared to the bottom of the screen? The LG 27GL850-B I received today displays this.

 

Might have to return this monitor if this is a defect.

I checked it and it's an IPS panel so you're likely experience excessive backlight bleed which is an issue with IPS panels indeed.

I'm not really sure how to proceed... this is literally the best reviewed monitor I could find in Canada, and it looks absolutely awful because of the backlight bleed at the top of the panel.

 

Do I just play monitor lottery until I get one that doesn't have backlight bleed that is this bad?

You could do like me and get a high end VA panel instead, color accuracy is perfectly fine and good for someone not professionally working on it to be honest, viewing angles are fine too.

 

But you won't suffer from backlight bleed or IPS glow any more and have far deeper blacks thanks to better contrast levels... It's arguably preferable for gaming you have eye candy in mind.

Ironically, I spend more of my time writing code nowadays than I do gaming. I wanted to get a screen that I could do both on, though this might be an exercise in futility.
