Can I lower the reference RTX 2060 Super fan speed?

So I've built a new computer recently after months of waiting for the V6 Ncase M1 and everything is amazing except for one minor issue I have with the GPU. The reference card seems to be pinned at 41% at idle, this means 1500 rpm at idle! Now everything else is dead silent except for the GPU, now its not deafening but its certainly noticable and bothers me as I'm coming from a system with all Noctua fans haha.

I've tried MSI afterburner & EVGA Precision X1 but neither lower below the 41% threshold. Just wondering if anyone has got a workaround? I really don't want to deal with the hassle of returning the GPU to get an aftermarket one as the main reason I bought the founders edition was for the looks and that it was one of the cheapest in the UK.

I can live with it but its more of a first world problem.

I have a 1080ti mini, which also has hardlock at 41% fanspeed, it can't go below that. Luckly for me it is silent, even thought it is 1350rpm.

You could do what Linus did, and rip off the fanshroud, and just ziptie a couple noctuas to it. But idk if the heatsink design would allow it.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Sounds like all reference PCB graphics cards are locked to 41%..

Hmm I dont fancy hacking up the shroud. Damn Nvidia, this is why I always went with AMD!

So I've been doing a bit of research and found the only way to lower the fan speed on reference RTX cards is to flash the BIOS to another board partners' BIOS.

Now this is pretty daunting for me so a follow up question would be how do I go about doing this? What board partner BIOS would be best suited for my reference RTX 2060 Super?

I seem to be able to reduce my fan speed on my 2070 super FE. i can control both fans independently aswell

(ignore the strix-1070ti - i have two GPU and the Asus GPU tweak 2 is reading it wrong)

What did you use to reduce the fan speed? Asus GPU tweak 2? Did that actually lower the fan speed of the FE? I contacted Nvidia and they said there isnt a way to lower it below 41% ?

  • 1 year later...

I really am sorry to post my first message in an very old thread...

...but can someone tell me how to get my RTX 2060 Super FEs Fan to go below 41%

The only way I found is to flash the BIOS of the card:

Improving NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER Founders Edition - CrystalIDEA Blog

This is really intriguing but A, I do not have an "A-Card" (like mentioned in the Link) and B, the risk of bricking the card is pretty big!

Please tell me there is a way, because my PC is beautiful but annoyingly loud...

thx!

P.S.: sorry for the bad english
