Seasonic Focus Plus 550W Platinum still not safe?

Hi,

Yesterday I ordered the Seasonic Focus Plus 550W Platinum, but today I found out about https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1093286-why-you-shouldnt-buy-a-seasonic-focus-plus-goldplatinum/, which tells me that the focus plus platinum is a bad psu. But I'm confused, as in the tier list it is still noted as tier A: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1045610-new-psu-tier-list/ .

So is my PSU bad or not? I could still return it. Also does it only hold for high watt usage gpu's? For reference, I'm also buying the 2060 Super MSI gaming x. Not planning to overclock or anything. Am I safe or should I return it?

im just kind of wondering why you spent the extra money for platinum on a relatively low wattage PSU... and i think just to be sure, so you don't run into trouble down the line, exchange it for a more reliable unit. something from Corsair's CM or RM line should do reasonably well here

CrumpleBox V3:  Xeon X5680  -  Asus X58 Sabertooth  -  DDr3 16GB@1.33Ghz  -  Gigabyte 1660s -  TT smart RGB 700W  -

Biggest reasoning was that I saw somewhere that the platinum is quite quiet compared to other models. And I value low noise.

But does the danger of seasonic focus plus still hold against low wattage psu's? Did the post about danger mean any wattage?

How do I test that it works fine? I thought u cannot measure ripple without any special hardware?

There's no specific testing you as an user can make, the issues exists and there's little difference between a 80+ gold and 80+ platinum on a mainstream usage computer.

While you're likely not to have any issues with the unit the bottom line is simply that there are better alternatives at this price point with more robust build quality, safer safety features and alike.

You already pulled the trigger and bought it so I wouldn't stress a whole lot unless you are sure you want a quieter higher quality unit, there are a few that fits the criteria like the RMx (2018) and the Straight Power 11

If you are already powering your system with one and aren't having shutdowns, I wouldn't worry.

The issue discussed in the other thread is only a potential issue when the PSU is used in a completely unrealistic/stupid manner. It should not be a concern for you with your system.

Since you've already purchased it then I would recommend keeping it. Not worth the effort in swapping it over something that isn't going to be an issue, and that issue which won't affect users in real world use cases aside they're actually pretty decent units.

You can't, at least not without expensive test equipment like you mentioned. That's why it's important to buy something you can trust when it comes to power supplies.

Thank you for your response. And I did do research about it. I found multiple sources saying it was top tier, including this forum's tier. https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1045610-new-psu-tier-list/ and https://www.gamingscan.com/psu-hierarchy/

It's just that I stumbled upon the other thread by chance today saying it suddenly wasn't.

That's just someone that literally copy pasted the old PSU tier list, without giving credit or sources. In the future, I recommend avoiding that site and not trusting anything they claim.

What about the former link?

You ordered new GX series or which one is it?

This is the one that I ordered. I think it is still the old one? (Excuses for the website being Dutch, but specs should still be readable)
