GPU: GTX 780 CPU: i7 5820k is liquid cooled (probably needs overclocking) Motherboard: ASUS extreme Rampage V

I plan on upgrading my GPU soon to probably a rtx 2080ti but I wasn't sure if my CPU will be good enough for it. But if I learn to overclock it a bit maybe it will be fine any advice? Also with the GPU upgrade I was finally gonna get a new monitor from my 60hz 1080p but not really sure if I should get a high hz 1080p or go for 1440p  but I play mostly competitive/multiplayer games that I would probably rather have the most fps I can taking advantage of a higher hz monitor and still being max settings. any advice for either of these questions would be greatly appreciated.

for a 2080 ti you can go for 1440p, my pick would be the LG L850 or Aorus 27QD in the 500usd range. I wouldn't worry too much about the cpu, there will be bottlenecks on some game at 144hz but see if it bothers you first.

I was looking at 1080p 240hz but some people say its not worth it cause I wont hit that fps in most games and it is not the big of a difference then the jump to 144hz

would the 2080ti and my CPU be enough to even get over 144hz on pretty much all games maxed out cause i defiantly would wanna take advantage of the higher hz monitor cause i play mostly competitive/multiplayer games.

i'd 100% go for a 240hz then, you can feel the difference, it's just not as noticeable jump as from 60 to 144, but 144 to 240 is still a big difference

What games do you play? most competitive games like csgo, rainbow six siege, overwatch or lol/dota for example don't need beefy graphics cards to hit 240fps+

if i knew id get the use out of the 144hz on pretty much all games maxed in 1440p id probably go that route but i feel like i wont but idk what kinda performance id get out of my PC with my current CPU and the new GPU id get.

Skip 240hz. Get a good 144hz IPS or VA monitor.

240hz is mostly pointless in almost every regard.

I play csgo, Rust, Dayz, elder scrolls online, rainbow six siege, overwatch, alot of BFV recently, and defiantly the new cod coming out soon. but I do plan on playing some story games like cyberpunk and stuff

Unless you do it profesionally, not really. VA might be a tad slow, but IPS is more than fast enough. Even good VA can be fast enough.

Only usecase for 240hz i can see is VR with Oled panels or maybe IPS. For now 240hz is an expencive gimmick.

Aim for a 144hz freesync IPS panel. That way you have a great panel for everything you would want.

If you want better blacks, maybe a good VA panel.

ive been using TN for a long time seems fine to me. Is it really worth getting IPS or VA over a TN? and would it have to be 1440p for ips or va? any monitor recommendations for those? and is gsync not worth it?

Freesync works on pascal and turing over displayport. Gsync really isnt worth the extra cost iver that.

Doesbt have to be 1440p, but might aswell be that.

IPS or VA is a lot better in terms of colors than TN. Very much worth the investment imo.

For IPS this panel apoears to be good.

is that a real 1ms ips monitor i=I haven't seen one besides LG's new one that people say isnt that great. IPS being higer ms usually is what steered me away from it

oh and also with the rtx 2080ti and my CPU maybe overclocked would be able to make use of the 144hz on pretty much all games maxed out if not that seems sorta a waste

144 to 240 it is a jump in a number most of the time because you wont notice it in reallity. your best bet is to see both modes in real play and try to decide.

idk how id be able to see both of those in action IRL. I'm more stuck on if 1440p is worth it over high hz 1080p even with the worse performance when id like to take advantage of the higer hz monitor in pretty much all games maxed out

Its slower, but IPS is fast enough these days that the difference really isnt much. And the color and brightness more than makes up for it.

Freesync makes going below 144hz a non-issue in terms of tearing.

You will hit around 90-150 fps in practically all titles going forward. And more than 144hz is pretty much pointless.

that isnt too bad for 1440p although 1080p id guess would basically always making use of the 144hz or higher which would be nice.

I mean, you cant display more than 144hz. On a 144hz monitor. And 240hz is pointless and is only TN afaik. So getting a 240hz monitor is still not worth it.

Just get a good 1440p 144hz VA or IPS pabel with decent brightness

I meant that always getting more then 144fps meaning the 144hz monitor is always being fully used unlike 1440p would end up being most of the time. I just wanna have the most advantages I can in the sorta games i usually play which is why the constant 144hz would be nice and 1ms. do the IPS colors really make that much of a difference competitively or is it just eye pleasing or something in game?

It makes a difference in terms of visuals and make the games "pop" out more. Especially AAA titles.

Competetivly there is no edge. But i highly enourage getting a IPS or VA panel with good brightness.
