How small can a gaming system go?

I've been thinking again... been playing Azur Lane for a long time, and recently started playing World of Warships too. I want to try a crazy build, and one way to do that might be to build a gaming PC capable of WoWS inside a model of a ship from the game. After poking around Amazon, I found Bismark kit that is cheap, and over 2 ft long. She has some width in the middle that might help. However, even at that scale, the cross section size is going to be a major problem. I think I'd be lucky to have 10cm across, better aim for less than that. Is there a long/thin form factor? Failing that, what other things are out there like a lattepanda? I don't know how much CPU I need, but GPU benchmark results are more plentiful.

 

I think I'd like to target a performance level of 1920x1080 at 60fps, low settings or better. My laptop with 7300HQ and 1050 can manage that. In a quick scan of benchmarks the better Intel integrated graphics might get close to that, although the presets don't quite align with that resolution. A power limited solution might be an idea as I'm not sure how much cooling I can provide this without affecting the exterior of the model. I'd like to limit that to power input, HDMI, some USB and not a lot more. Hmm... wifi might be an idea to keep cables down. Actually, if I go wireless peripherals I can even ditch the USB. Just need ports for power and HDMI.

 

So... requirement is mainly a tiny mobo, powered by external brick. What options are there?

@Fasauceome @BuckGup thanks for suggestions. Apologies if it was lost in the wall of text I posted, but I'm looking way smaller than that. I could have the length, but I don't have the width. I was looking more at lattepanda size, and vaguely recall others in that size but no idea on their name. It is a case of how much performance can I get how small? I'm not sure a pure atom based system would be sufficient. I have no need for a socketed CPU, soldered is fine.

Done some more searching. About the only other thing I turned up were compute sticks, but again these are Atom based and probably too low. This project might be dead.

Yeah unfortunately in that form factor and thereabouts you run into power delivery problems, after all traces can only be so small. Memory will be soldered in too, and not much of it.

I don't think power is a limit. Mobile 25W CPUs would probably be fine. The problem is I need a non-standard form factor that might normally be custom build if really needed.

I'm fairly certain I had seen a lattepanda or similar with a high end mobile CPU on it. I think Linus used it in a video which I can only remember the clickbait title was something like add a GPU to macbook pro, where it wasn't an actual MBP but one of these SFF boards with same mobile CPU. I could try to find that again... or was it a bigger form factor? I can't remember.

An Intel NUC should be able to fit, especially if you were to yoink off the housing and find a way to mount the guts of the thing yourself.

There are a few single-board machines out there that use a Core m3. It's a decent little processor for what it is, and if you can get your hands on a board with a PCIe x1 slot and connect a GT 1030 or GTX 1050 to it, or the RX 550/560 equivalents, then hook up an external GPU dock, it's doable, but at that point you've just gone from a typical ITX box to a bunch of parts strewn across your desk.

 

LowSpecGamer's YouTube videos would be a good place to start if you want to attempt gaming on an m3's iGPU.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Ok, my memory was a bit off. As mentioned earlier, I don't know how much power I actually need, although my gut feeling is this is still on the low side. At least it isn't an Atom...

They’re supposed to be 4” x 4”, or 10.16cm x 10.16cm. Without the housing it’d defo fit inside a 10cm space.

As noted in OP I want to fit this "PC" into a model ship. Space is limited. Cooling... might be interesting. I kinda always wanted to do a silly build. Will check out that channel later.

Someone did a model ship build...or maybe it was just an oddball case from Lian Li? Seems like the kind of thing they'd do.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Lian Li did do a ship that Linus "reviewed" previously. It was more a PC case that had ship features than an actual ship though. My intent is to pick a model of a real ship to fit one into.

I also had a suggestion of a Star Destroyer from elsewhere, but last time I checked neither of these were in World of Warships. Hmm... that'll be a hell of a game if they ever could get licensing rights for it. World of Starships!

The Death Star would be cool, but it would make for a very short game.
