Hi,

maybe something like this.

left cpu and GPU out as you already own them (right?)

16GB is plenty although if you want you can always go with 32GB.

this motherboard has built in wifi and has good Vrm cooling.

550W model of the Rmx will be plenty (high quality unit too).

left the rest as is :)

God don't pay that much for Windows!  Run inactive or buy a grey market key!

You can get cheaper SSD's, look into Crucial or Sabrent or Intel.

Motherboard is WAY too expensive, should never be more than the CPU.  Grab a B450 Tomahawk from MSI maybe.

A good 550w PSU is all you need.

Do they need 32GB of RAM?

I made some changes that I think would far improve your build:

- X570 is a vast improvement over X470, and this board has built-in wifi and an amazing VRM.

- Ram kit is cheaper and will perform just as well

- Skip out on Hard Drives, SSD prices are falling rapidly and you won't need 3.5TB of storage for what you're doing

- The P400A is a much more modern, airflow-focued case for a similar price. RGB fans are $25 extra

- Power Supply is cheaper and will do just as well

- Get Windows from a grey-market site like SCDKey, you'll save $100 or more

32GB of ram is a nice luxury to have, and it's never bad to get a newer, nicer motherboard for future upgrade potential.

Unless he's playing heavily modded Skyrim, 16 is fine.

With the 2700, he'll upgrade platforms before he upgrades using that board.  VRM's?  For stock 2700?  VRM's only come into play with overclocking.  For his needs, and 99% of gamers, a B450 would be more than fine for over $50 less.

If he wants higher end stuff, sure.  Trying to save some money by not spending on things he doesn't need at all.

@leo1798

sorry but a X570 is definitely not needed here.

Depends on which board you are comparing, but in general x570 is pretty good, doesnt mean x470 is not.

You can run a 16 core just fine on a tomahawk, so i dont see a reason why you will need a better board.

Cost lowering, and changes in terms of need. This will be more than fine.

thank you all! yeah they are 11 and i figured that they would start to do some modding, class assignments, and that kinda stuff. i know more about maintenance and software. but hardware i know just enough to be dangerous and really appreciate all the feed back! one other question could i set up a external hard drive and have both PC's mine and there's hooked into it for steam games to run off that at the same time with out needing to set up a virtual computer?

@GoldenLag

i suggested  The gaming pro Carbon as it comes with built in wifi ( op added a wifi card) and it’s a very high quality board. If choosing Tomahawk you’ll need to buy a seperate one and I thought kids might like the extra added rgb of the GPC  (also saw budget OP was using and thought this would fit nicely in.)

I agree with the changes you made besides psu, personally would still go with the Corsair RMx which is marginally a better unit as the MWE. 550W should be plenty; unless you opted for 650w for future upgradability ?

I was gonna go 550w, but i went for full modularity and that was the cheapest one. 550w is more than enough. Rmx is nice, but you can also grab a straight power for a little less aswell

Yeah full modularity is important (I find a time least) - makes sense.

either psu will be good for this build

Semi-modular is also fine as all the non-modular bits are bits you would use anyways. So a pure power 11 600w is fine (i draw the line at 550 as 500w is a little too little for any consumer configuration) tho technically 500w is also fine for 9900k + 2080ti. PP11 is dualrail and can handle half the power on each rail i believe.

Oh I meant myself, I wouldn’t want a semi or non modular psu - but a full modular —> cable management
