More info would help.... But that said, not enough PSU wattage will result in a lot of black screens and possibly amazing smells...

 

So, likely, that isn't the issue. It wouldn't just "sort of work" with less power. It would trip an over current protection switch in the PSU and turn off, or... just start smelling like smoke.

 

If its a bad quality PSU, it may not have good OCP (over current protection) and could lead to hurt parts if its over taxed, but honestly a 430 is likely fine. I run the PC in my sig and it tops out at 480 watts in game load. I doubt yours will be using more than 350 watts. That said, your cutting it very close and I wouldn't have made that hardware choice, but that likely isn't the issue here.

 

I would try other games and see what GPU usage your are hitting.

If you didn't have enough power, the PSU would simply shut off due to over power protection, assuming it has it. 99% of PSUs that I've seen, even the shitty ones, have at least OPP. But in the event that it somehow doesn't, one, replace the PSU, two it would just continue to draw that excess power until it popped.
