My very good CS GO friends are still not any faster than me who can generally not aim for shit and roll support lol. Desktop use is way different and just because you can turn your dude around fast and accurately didn't mean you can click things any faster in excel or whatever.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I use the maximum sensitivity on the work mouse and fly through our inventory management program with some particularly small icons. I'm a lousy shot in shooters though.

I think it depends on the genre of game.

FPS games, no, because playing in first person is very different to a desktop environment where you're navigating a cursor. UI-based games like simulation and MMORPGs I can see a correlation in.

I used to play World of Warcraft on the daily half a decade ago and I think I still retain some elements of tracking from then because I'm able to navigate desktop stuff accurately and quickly.

In my type of work, more you use mouse less productive you are. MMORPGs I played made me familiar with keyboard shortcuts and macros and I still use those macros for different apps, I rarely use mouse so my mouse aim reaction times literally has no effect on me.

I think people who play a lot of PC games probably spend more time on the computer than a non-gaming person, so for that reason they would be more comfortable and confident with using it.
