How to identify a fake Intel CPU?

So, I gave into the temptation of picking up a couple of cheap used Intel Xeon CPUs from AliExpress.

After placing the order, I was just looking at the image of the chip and something looked odd about the laser etched labels on the heat spreader.

To me, looking carefully the 'X5670' kinda looks like a cut-and-paste job. Doing more digging, I googled the SLBWZ code which actually refers to a E5645!

 

Its currently shipping, so my question is: when it arrives, what software can I use to determine if these CPUs are not what they claim to be?

Agreed, the 'X5670' is definitely cut and pasted onto the image. The bios will likely tell you if it is authentic or not, if you can make it that far. CPU Z will work also

the seller just being lazy taking pictures.

as far as i know, you can't fake a cpu.

and if they can, too much effort for just $5 difference.
