Okay so here is my setup:

MB:Gigabyte z77-ds3h

CPU:I7-3770

RAM:8Gb

GPU: Sapphire HD 7970

PSU:600W

Current drives:

Samsung 840 128gb

Kingston UV400 240gb

HDD Toshiba 1TB

I want to attach one more hard disk, Seagate 1TB to my setup but i am running into a problem. If i connect this hard disk along with the others it doesnt work, doesnt show in the bios or just briefly and it spins up and down multiple times(not enough power?)

This are the things i have tried:

New sata cable - not the issue

New molex to sata power - not the issue

if i disconnect one hdd and plug the new one it works.

It seems that if i connect a 4th hdd/ssd it doesnt work.

my PSU has the following cables:

GPU 6+8pin

1 cable with 3 sata power
1 cable with 2 sata power + molex
1 cable with sata power and molex

if there are 2 hdd or ssd connected on a single cable one doesnt work.

What can it be the issue? The PSU is more than enough for the job?!

Any help is appreciated! Thanks

that is weird. Every PSU I have owned (several) has been able to handle multiple drives. I wonder if one of your SATA connector is shared with the m2 and you can't use both at the same time.

Sorry for the late reply.

My motherboard doesn't have a m.2 slot it has a mSata though. But from all the 6 ports there are available i tried them all :(

Power should be fine unless a connector is shorter or something. Try all different SATA power connectors?

Have you tried plugging in any of the drives you already have installed into another SATA socket while you have the new drive plugged into a known good SATA socket? All the other SATA ports?

Is the SATA controller port your plugging the drive into enabled? It sounds like it may be disabled.

Well the problem was fixed by doing a few changes and the end configuration is:

Sata 0 - Kingston SSD(connected to sata power cable 0)

Sata 1 - Samsung SSD(connected to sata power cable 0)

Sata 2 - Seagate 1TB(connected to sata power cable 1)

Sata 5 - Toshiba 1TB(connected to sata power cable 2)

I guess it will function correctly without any problems!

It is curious to see how they do not work well if they are connected in another slot but that could also give us insights of what happens, it is likely that you have problems if you connect it differently because those SATA ports have become defective for some reason, sometimes also all you need is a BIOS update.
