RX 580 - No Fan Spin Unless Using SpeedFan

ahhh, gotcha.. Truthfully, Afterburner is the go-to GPU control software anyways, so I would ignore the radeon stuff and just stick with this and call it good.

Recently I swapped the paste on my XFX RX 580 (thermals are excellent now btw). I was super careful about the fan connector since I read that it was quite fragile. Everything seemed to go very well and it worked after I reinstalled it. Only problem is, no fan spin. To be more specific; the fans work... when I'm using SpeedFan to manually turn them on. But even after messing around in Wattman for an hour and changing a whole bunch of settings and even reinstalling Radeon settings and drivers, nothing. Still, the fans won't spin after a reboot.

During disassembly I noticed a little switch near the 8 pin power connector, and although my curiosity was through the roof, I didn't attempt flipping the switch, since I assumed this was for the dual bios. But maybe somehow I accidentally flipped it anyways and it messed something up?? Just trying to consider any possibility of ignorance here.

Any help, input, recommendations, etc. is greatly appreciated. I can certainly survive using speedfan, but I'd like to be able to, ya know, have it work like it's supposed to.

And yes. I've disabled zero rpm mode.

Do fans turn on when you put card under gaming load?

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus ROG Strix B650E / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Powercolor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil/ EVGA 750W GQ / NZXT H5 Flow

This is normal. New cards these days have a zero fan RPM mode that keeps the fans off until the card reaches a certain temp, usually about 60c and then they will kick on.

Yeah, I know, but I don't want the feature and I turned it off. It was working perfectly before.

As good as it is, I simply don't want it. Not concerned with power consumption or noise. An extra 2-4 watts is insignificant.

go Download MSI afterburner and use that to monitor your GPU and set a custom fan curve that runs at start up.

I'm going to try that now. Do you recommend uninstalling Radeon settings before using afterburner?

no, leave the Radeon settings as thats your driver controls, MSI Afterburner has no affect on that.

Seemed to work fine and I set a custom fan curve, yet once I closed out of the software fans stopped spinning, as per usual.

you cant close the software, need to minimize it to your system tray. If you close it out, it stops working. Also, make sure you hit the windows icon in the lower left corner to tell it to run at windows startup.

Good to know, that's a good temporary solution. It's just really weird that the fans don't react when I'm using the Radeon software and Wattman. In Wattman I just reset my settings to defaults, then changed everything to what I want, and it worked, but once I restart my computer, the fans stop spinning properly. Just don't understand how something like this even happens, as I have no overclocks or voltage changes set for the gpu.

do you see the fighter jet in your system tray? If not, open the options of in Afterburner and and click the boxes to start up with windows.
