Powerful best value ($per performance measure)

1. Budget & Location

Spoiler

You may have listed a heap of parts that all add up to your preferred budget but it is easier if you just list the total amount you'd like to spend and the currency as well as if you'd consider going above that budget for more performance. We need the location as well because $US are different to $AUD and $CAD ect.

2. Aim

Spoiler

What is the system going to be used for? Web browsing, 3D work? Different systems need different levels of performance - a computer based for web browsing and office use won't handle heavy graphic design and video editing and a proper video editing system isn't good for gaming. If your aim is for gaming, please list what sort of gaming. In the same way that different usage types need different systems, you'll need a lot more power to run Far Cry 3 or Crysis 2 than you would Minecraft.

The current system is used for:

Usually gaming and watching a movie or WAN show.

Spoiler

Spoiler

We ask this because you may see upgrading as the only path to solve an issue but things such as driver updates, reconfiguration or cleaning can boost performance without spending a cent.

Please copy and paste the major dot points into your thread as it makes it easier for us to give you better feedback.

Have fun and keep building :)

I am out of hard drive space.

Since the MOBO only has SATA an bigger SSD will be a through away.

The CPU and MOBO are over 3-5 years old and my die soon.

  • ** All computers were bult from combined scrapped comptuer parts
  • Old drives that should be replaced; Velociraptor drives- that are 10-15 years old one raid has already died
  • Full SSD (Samsong 860 Evo 500GB)
  • Both SSD and Raid are full

I have a

  • Intel Core i7-990X @ 3.47GHz with
  • on a Formula III Rampage board
  • 24 GB DDR3 PC3- 8500 (533Mhz)
  • GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB SC
  • 850 Watt power supply
  • Samsong 860 Evo 500GB
  • Marvell RAID 1- (mirrored)  with 2  600 GB velociraptor (10-15 years old)

** I love My Antec ONE Case. It is simple easy to build in. Adequate fan mounts. Plenty of HD mounts. NOT flashy 'baying for bling'

This current system will be cyled down to the wife and kid with the exception of the graphics card. There graphics card will move to the I7 and the 1060 will go to my new system

Their Computer is: (Plan B is retire this except graphics card)

  • Core i3 2120 3.3 GHz
  • DQ67SW mobo (may be a factor in failed reboots)
  • 18 gb DDR PC3-10700 (667 Mhz)
  • Geforce GTX 750 Ti 2GB
  • case is beat  up / hard to install into
  • Power supply is old and suspected cause of failed reboots

It struggles to play Minecraft, barley load modded, chokes on Factorio and City Skyline

Option A

  • Buy 2 2-4 TB HHD and replace RAID

Option B

  • Build a new computer
  • Keep Video card- When looking at Video cards there was Not a value (performance per $) let alone Performance better then my current GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB SC in the ~$100 range
