Intel i5-4570

MSI H81M-E33

Patriot 16 (2x8GB) Viper III DDR3

Recently could not get my PC to display to my monitor. I tried multiple graphics cards, different monitors, and nothing. Then I pulled out one of my ram sticks from the first slot and my PC turned on like normal. To make sure I didn't have a dead DIMM, I put the stick I had taken out into the other slot (it's a two slot motherboard) and again my PC turned on normally.

So I believe I have a dead ram slot, and I am trying to figure out the best course of action. Is it wise to just keep using a motherboard with a dead slot? Do I have an excuse to upgrade my rig to a Ryzen or at least a DDR4 based system? Can I fix a dead memory slot?

Do forgive if I have broken any forum rules.

Considering your mobo has 2 DIMM slots you're stuck with only one and thats not nice.

Yea, a real dinky motherboard that has lasted me a lot longer than I expected. Just trying to figure out if I can hold out any more or if it is time to move on.
