Hi guys,

I'm currently working out my first pc build, and the biggest 'issue' would be choosing the video card/monitor combo.

After doing some research, I personally believe that going the FreeSynch 2 way would be better than G-sync, especially when it comes to budget. For a monitor with the same specs, I would have to pay about +200$ more, which is a bit over the budget.

Now, the build would look as follows:

AMD Ryzen 7 3800x

MSI MPG x570 Gaming Plus/Edge

Samsung 970 PRO 512GB

Samsung 860 EVO 512GB

Seagate BarraCuda 256mb 2TB

A Seasonic 650w Platinum/750w Gold

Corsairs Vengeance RGB PRO 16 GB 3200Mhz

Either AIO liquid or some be quiet!/Noctua Air cooling

GPU: 2070 SUPER/2080/1080 ti/5700 XT

For screens, I think Samsung C27HG70 would be a good choice for FreeSynch.

This is more or less for 1440p 144hz gaming. I'm fully aware that not all titles will run above 60FPS @ 1440p, but i'm okay with that.

I also know that G-Sync on a FreeSynch monitor is still a 'touchy' subject, and thus the reason for this post.

So basically, from my point of view, it's just a matter of choosing the right video card and monitor.

Any tips, advice?

Truthfully, 1440/144hz is still a ways off. Even a 2080ti cant fully pull it off yet. If you want high frame rates, you would be better going for 1080/144hz. That said, you want to get the single fastest GPU you can afford. From what you have listed, the 2070 super and 2080 are about the same in terms of performance followed EXTREMELY close by the 5700xt and then the 1080ti just barely being edged out by the 5700xt.

As I was saying, I'm aware that not every title will go 100+ fps @1440p, but, I usually game on competitive games, such as LoL, Starcraft, and the likes. In these titles, it's entirely possible to go 150+. even with these graphic cards. And in the future, the only point that could do with upgrades, is the video card, and possibly some more RAM. That's why it's 'built' this way.

But the question remains, is slightly lower performance Radeon(5700 XT) with FreeSynch monitor better than bigger performance Nvidia(2800) with FreeSynch, or must I go the G-Sync way for NVidia. Because if so, that would mean about 15%-20% more money in the end.

2070s is the best all around card in your list. Its on par with the 2080 in terms of performance. Only cards better would be the 2080 super or the 2080ti. I use a 2080ti on a freesync monitor with zero issues with G-sync enabled.

The 3800X is a waste of money unless you can get it for the same price as the 3700X.

Those two boards are not that great either.

You can get better value SSD's than Samsung. Also just get a 1TB instead of 2 x 512GB.

No need for a Platinum psu. Just get a good Gold rated unit like a Corsair RMx.

As for G-Sync/Freesync I would go with a Freesync monitor that supports Nvidia gpu's. Then you are not tied to a single gpu.

The 3800x is 40$ more atm, but comes with 2 games instead of 1 (borderlands 3 + the outer worlds).

What SSDs would you recommend? 1TB NVMe might be a bit too expensive tho.

And for the monitors, I understand that not all freersynch are g-sync compatible. Any tips on that?
