So ive tried installing Destiny 2 on my pc since it moved to steam, I left my pc on overnight and it had gotten to about 50%. So i left it on for another night, once i woke up my pc was off. I thought nothin about it and just fired it up again. opens steam, and steam wants to completly redownload the game and everything. WHY?. Destiny 2 is like 80gb? i saw some solution online but that didnt work, something about replacing the files in /steam/steamapps/downloading. What i did find was the game, in that "Downloading" folder! Why doesnt steam keep on going from where it left off? the file i found even says its 81.2gb, so basically the WHOLE GAME. It also got the .patch files. is there anyway of letting steam know he have already downloaded the game?? My internet connection is around like 700kb/s so redownloading it isnt really a option i want. Thanks.

That's what it does.

Seems your PC might have shut down improperly and not allowed seam to stave its state properly.

The files being the full size doesn't mean the data is actually there, Steam pre-allocates storage for performance resaons and to avoid fragmentation when you do other stuff on the drive while it downloads. So it first makes the 80GB files full of filler as a placeholder, then replaces with the actual contents as they're downloaded.

At this point, it seems the best course of action would be to check why the PC turned off, so it doesn't happen again, if OP leaves it downloading overnight.
