What is the best graphics card for video editing at 4K?

So right now I have an i7 8700 processor with an Nvidia RTX 2070 graphics card

I'm looking to upgrade possibly?

I'm definitely going to want to upgrade the CPU That can only help... But what graphics card would be better than the current RTX 2070 for 4K video editing?

In my search as far as I could tell there's not much above the 2070? I see the 2080

The 2080 TI and the 2080 super? If I upgrade to one of those graphics cards would it be that much of a difference in performance?

upgrade cpu, you want more cores

a video editing rig is only as good as its cpu

what you have seems fine in general

but if you are going to upgrade anything for "video editing" it will need to be your cpu

If I had one wish, I would ask for a big enough ass for the whole world to kiss

Yes upgrading the CPU would definitely help but I'm having a hard time deciding what to upgrade to I know for sure it's definitely going to be AMD I would go with the ryzen 9 3900x but right now you can't even get it sold out already..

I can go with something like a thread ripper but then if I get something overkill it's really not going to make a difference? Then I suspect you just get diminishing returns

Threadripper is not overkill. same like Xeon they were designed for Editing because they got lot of cores.

  Spec: Macbook Air 2017

| RAM: 8GB LPDDR3 |

| Storage: 128GB SSD

 | GPU: Intel HD 6000 |

So you think any one of the thread ripper models whether it be the same amount of cores or more will be just as good if not better then a ryzen 9 3900x?

One of the thread ripper models is what I wanted to switch to before the new risen lineup came out everybody was telling me to wait people are telling me the 3900x would be better but you can't even get it right now lol

Many of thread ripper at least double or even tripple the core of 3900x. like 2990WX 32Core with 12core on 3900X that is huge

What CPU do you use do you video edit individuals? And do you have any issues?

I use i7-3610QM. yes individually make it easier for my hardware. nope.

you need to see comparison between editing in youtube

Do you really need to upgrade anything? your system is by all means capable of decent 4k video editing.

GPU wise the RTX 2070 is enough, if you want a better CPU you'll need to aim at a 5ghz i9 9900K or Ryzen 9 3900X to feel any noteworthy difference.

Definitely wait a month for the next gen threadrippers, otherwise it is ok.

Specs wise, in resolve, my 3700x renders 4k 200mbit/s footage at real time, so a bit slow, i recommend going with 3900x for the extra cores, or something like the 16core threadripper.

But stick with 8700 if you don't actually NEED to upgrade.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Well I don't need to but I would like to I want a better editing experience I can edit fine with what I have but the playback is choppy it takes longer to edit because the playback is choppy... I'm thinking of upgrading and changing the AMD because not only will I get more cores it'll be a better processor but AMD is supposed to take advantage of higher ram speeds as well where Intel does not..

I can only imagine that would help more than it would hurt?

again I don't necessarily need to upgrade but I do want a better smoother experience Nvidia editing You can't even get a 3900 x right now and I'm being told I should wait for the new thread ripper to come out That's going to be more than I want to spend I'm sure plus I won't need 64 Coors so there's no important waiting on something like that lol Right now third River seems to be the best option?

What do you mean?

Is the timeline scrubbing not smooth?

Are the video files that you are editing on an HDD? In that case you should get an SSD as a scratchdisk, that would be your upgrade.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

I run off of m.2 for my boot drive and a solid state for everything else there is not one hard drive that exists in my system lol and yes the scrubbing and playback sucks

... I would like to find a way to take classes in DaVinci resolve to learn everything professionally maybe there are some settings that I don't have right that is causing it not to play or work as good

But I'm pretty sure any CPU that has more than six cores is going to help lol

You can always open the task manager while editing and seeing the cpu/gpu usage.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

On the bright side of switching to a 9900 k I wouldn't have to change my motherboard ?

Right I'm just having a hard time deciding what to upgrade to because then I have to find a good motherboard as well .?
