Hey everyone,

I have been watching LTT for a few months now, and I wanted to engage in the forum a little bit to see what's what.  Therefore, to start off my new found forum status, I would like to ask some questions about gaming computers.  I have been saving and saving up for a gaming computer with little to no compromise on the performance, however, after my money saving efforts I am now in a position where I have a choice to make.  As it stands right now, I am able to build a computer with decent specs, but my problem is that if I wait a little longer then I can get a computer with even better specs.  Now everybody has their own opinions on the kind of hardware they prefer, and they are entitled to those opinions, however, I am not looking for recommendations on specific hardware, I just want to ask one question; would rather build a computer with zero compromise and run the games you want to play at 4k at 120FPS or would you rather build a computer that can run 1440p at 120FPS on most Triple A titles?

The reason I am asking this is because I have seen to many people build/buy a computer that they regret certain aspects about later, and my problem is that I don't want to be in a position where I regret or wish I would have waited later down the line.  I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to computer hardware, and I am looking to switch my primary gaming platform from console to PC for various reasons, therefore, I will be looking for hardware recommendations later on when I decide what I truly want to end up with at the end of the day.

Thank you

Sincerely, Mr_Aston177

4k  120FPS vs 1440p 120FPS?

just on paper higher is better.

the hardware needed to get those fps is another story.

say everyone think "A" gpu is perfect for 1440p 120FPS, shortly after a some time, you find it is not capable holding up as you first intended.

and even you get the very top tier card right now, there will always be a much competitive mid tier newer gpu that may beat it.

i will state my opinion as simpel as i must as you do not want exact configuration but more how to think in building the system and options.

For gaming pc what matters most for me (if we keep everything else aside for a while) is :

1. Monitor inches and hz i want to play on

2. Then decide the gpu.

Big monitors (25'' and above) require highend gpus to pair them so they shine, Smaller monitors like (24'' and below) require from medium to highend gpus from both brands(although in AMD builds nowadays is a bit straightforward a 5700xt for highend). BUT Dont that stop you from buying a high end gpu with a smaler monitor if your budget lets you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. After deciding the gpu, use a cpu that will not bottleneck the system. The third one is easier to decide once you have the gpu decided. AMD 3rd gen cpu and 3x00 is the mainline nowadays. For intel i would say an i7/i9.

Everything else is eihter standard or depends from the brands you chose above. (mainly gpu, cpu)

Memory is a starting basically from 16gb (the mhz depends from your cpu) and for mhz depends from budget and your cpu mainly (not to mention the motherboard too).

For motherboard: You may not have to go to x570 platform yet because it is too expensive as of AMD and stick with x470 chipsets instead.

For intel cpu you propably will end up with i9/i7 and some motherboard accepting it that cpu.

Psu(although it depends from the gpu, cpu combination mostly) it is a bit standard in watts to choose from 600w 750w would work on most configurations but depends as said.

Storage is to your liking and money.

Thats it in short words and ...completely vague...

What is your current budget/country for a PC? and what monitor resolution/refresh rate do you currently have? and do you have any peripherals?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?
