Is 8gb ram future proof for non gaming purpose

I wouldn’t say so. But if 2-3 years isn’t worth 40 bucks to you, then sure it’s plenty.

IMO 8GB RAM is "absolute minimum if not possible to put more" nowadays, so obviously not future proof.

That obviously depends on the OS you're running. 8Gb on linux is pretty much enough for any web browsing. Not so much on Windows.

With Office and Chrome? Maybe, depending on how many Chrome tabs you open, spending a bit more on 16GB is worth it though.
