I want to add more ram on new mobo

Hi

i am going to get a New mobo and CPU bundle but it doesn't come with ram, I want to know if i can keep my current ram (2X 4GB 2400Mhz) and get some new ram aswell. looking at an 2X 4GB or 8GB stick.

Yea, sure. Keep in mind it will run at the slower of the two speeds (e.g. if you get 3000Mhz RAM, it will go down to 2400Mhz because of your current set) and keep in mind certain CPU's like faster memory (especially AMD Ryzen CPU's), so you could consider also selling your RAM and getting some good 2x8GB 3000+MHz set.

Depending on the chipset you buy you might be limited on how far you can take your memory frequency to... in that case it won't matter as much mixing up different memory kits.

 

If you do get 2x4gb + 1x8gb you have to ensure you have the 2x4gb in one channel and the 1x8gb in other channel in order to have Dual Channel functioning properly.
