I've found two used monitors for the same price (337€), and I can't decide on which one to take.

LG 27UK650-W (review, official site)

HP OMEN 27", Z4D33AA (review, Amazon)

My config is:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 3.85 GHz
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
  • RAM: 16 GB 2800

Currently on my PC I do work (programming, web development, designing), but I also play games (League of Legends, Borderlands, Overwatch, Apex Legends, Hades). I already have one monitor which I plan to keep as secondary (IPS with OK colors).

If you have any other recommendations feel free to add them.

Thanks in advance.

What do you need more - High resolution or high refresh rate?

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

The OMEN one for fast competitive gaming since it has 165hz, meaning it will display 165 frames per second if you can get that kind of fps in game, it'll be slightly lower resolution but 1440p is still good. The LG one for single player games or if you just play casually, it only has 60hz aka it can shot 60 frames per second. It is 4k though so you'll get better picure quality

I've been using a 1080p 144hz monitor for over 5 years now and for me it's a lot more important that it's smooth rather then high resolution

Both sound great. Is there a big difference between 1440p and 4K?

little. remember 4K is worth when its big as tv for me. and 4K gaming takes lot of power.

FPS depends on the game, a 1080 will run stuff at 4k, but maybe not max settings

i guess so, but you might have to compromise somewhat with graphics settings. I guess it could do medium or high at best with stable 60fps.

If it's questionable if I can run 4K at 60 FPS then I probably won't be able to utilize 165 Hz with 1440p display. I think then the smartest thing would be to get LG monitor. I'll think about it a bit more, a day or two and then I'll decide.

Thank you all for the help.

You'll be able to run games at 4k 60, but newer games you might struggle in unless you turn down graphics settings.

Remember as well you'll have to use scaling in windows to make text readable at 4k, might not be ideal for programming. at 1440p it won't be much of an issue, and as i said in my previous reply i think refresh rate makes a bigger difference in games and in programs than higher res, everything just feels super smooth

and in games like lol, overwatch, etc that are easier to run you can get 165fps and it's easy to upgrade to a 3'rd gen ryzen in the future if you need more fps for newer games, but you can still run games fine if you're under 165fps with that refresh rate, it will just be like using a lower hertz panel

basically, i'd go for the 1440p 165hz any day of the week

your gpu is aging, just go with a 144hz 1080p for god sake pls

if you play fps games wait for the new IPS 1080p 144hz ones

If I had one wish, I would ask for a big enough ass for the whole world to kiss
