Greetings,

So after 9 years in service my OC'd @3.6Ghz Phenom II 955 BE, is reaching its limits and my RAMs faulty and giving me occasional Blue Screens. No complaints though served me well without issues until now.

System Right now:

CPU: Phenom II 955BE, Scythe Mugen 2 Rev B

MB: Gigabyte GA-870-UD3

RAM: 12GB DDR3 G.Skill/Corsair mix

GPU: HD 7950 PCS+

SSD: Samsung 840 130GB

HDD: WD Blue 1TB and Samsung 500 GB

Case: CM 690 Advance II

PSU: CM SIlent Pro 500W

3 Screens 1080p, ancient Acer, Dell Ultrasharp and an Aoc, dont know the exact designations.

With that I'm looking for an Upgrade but not exactly sure on the Components, since i havent really looked at any Hardware in the past 6 or 7 years. Systems gonna be mostly for Gaming, bit of CAD drawing and general use,  i tend to have  Discord, Spotify,  Youtube/Twitch, other Browsertabs etc. open on the other screens while gaming.  Also dont plan to make any other upgrades untill something breaks or wears out, so it should last a couple years.

For CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 or 3700X, unsure if the extra 100€ would be worth it in the long run for my needs. I Dont really plan to Overclock, maybe very lightly in the future but nothing major.

Mainboard: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon, again unsure if the extra cost of something like a Gigabyte x570 Auros Elite/Asus TUF  would be worth it in the long run.

RAM: 16GB of something, 3200 Mhz, 3600 Mhz i really dont know.

The Rest of the System will stay as is, GPU Upgrade will follow next year. For the Budget, i dont mind spending a bit extra if it pays of in the long run, otherwise the less i have to pay the better.

Hope you can help me not waste any money on stuff i dont really need.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 | CPU: Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.6Ghz | CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B | RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333 CL9 | GPU: HD 7950 PCS+ | PSU: Cooler Master Silent pro M 500 | Case: CM 690 II Advanced | HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 @ 500GB | SSD: Samsung 840 @120GB

Sounds good. Get a 3600 and pair it with the fastest RAM that isn't shit that you can buy; Ryzen loves fast RAM.

I would go for a nicer motherboard; I have a soft spot for TUF boards but I'm not super into modern hardware so don't take my word for it.

Quote me to see my reply!

Hi thanks for the answer, what kinda RAM do you mean? dont really know whats considered good or bad these days. G.Skill RipJaws V 16GB, DDR4-3400, CL16 something like that?

by nicer board you mean an X570 over a B450 i assume? whats the advantage other than PCIe 4.0?

Due to your occasional work with AutoCAD, I recommend the Ryzen 7 2700X. It's the same price as the Ryzen 5 3600 with some retailers and it has 2 extra cores.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you get a Ryzen 3000 series chip you'll have to get a X570 board as the B450's don't support Ryzen 3000 out of the box without a bios update. If you get a Ryzen 2000 series chip, you'll be able to get any B450 or B470 board.

Intel Core i7 9700F / Cooler Master 212 Evo / GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER / 16 GB G.SKILL RAM @ 2666MHz / GA-B365M-DS3H / EVGA 500w PSU

HP Pavilion Gaming 15 / Ryzen 5 4600H / GeForce GTX 1050 / 8 GB @ 3200MHz

I would pick the Ryzen 2700, with the B450 Pro Carbon and Crucial ballistix 3000 or 3200mhz because you use Autocad and run lots of tasks at once.

If not then the 3600 is a solid choice, with either a B450 Pro Carbon or a X570 Asus TUF if you can spare some money, and 3600mhz ram

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

Thanks for the Answers. Yes i have read that i would need to update the Bios to run a 3000 Series on a B450 Board but that shouldnt be all that hard to do ? (famous last words).

To be Honest i didn't think about the 2700X, figured since i dont plan to upgrade again any time soon it would be better to go with the newest Gen in the long run. The Pricepoint is identical to the 3600 too which would be very nice, certainly have to think about that one.

Just hope that my 500W PSU will be enough to support the new Hardware with the new GPU i plan to get next year.

Some B450\X 470 boards have Bios Flashback feature, mostly MSI boards. You don't need anything on the board exept the Thumbstick with the BIOS file on it and the power supply and you press the button and wait.

The 2700 is pretty cheap that why i still consider it depending on if you need 2 more cores over the 3600.

What is the GPU you plan to buy, 500W is usually enough for the usual gaming PC.
