Windows 10 with fast saved copy for esport club

Hey guys,

 

I'm looking for help with an idea I recently had. But... lets strat at the beggining.

I'm running an esport club. We have a pub, 10 PC, consoles etc. Everything a man could want while hanging out with friends and playing games.

A big problem I have is with the PC, people instal their own drivers, software, configs (for CS) and in general screw around with the PC - not theirs so they dont care.

I need to solve that problem since during tournaments a lot of time is lost at fixing anything a player did to make the game more like at home.

 

My idea is to have a quick restore option, even in bios if possible.

So how I see it:

- I do a clean windows instal

- Install all the drivers, basic games etc

- Create a "image" or something like that of windows

- Every user that uses the PC can go for "clean version" or previous version (all his settings and such if he did a reboot).

- If I need to update windows or games I just login as admin, update and create new image.

 

Is that dobale? If yes - HOW?!

Sounds like you just need to set up an Active Directory server.

Why do users have admin? Just setup users with limited permissions so they can't touch anything outside of their own account, then give a select few people admin that need it.

 

You can do a image restore with something like deepfreze, or do a quick redeploy with seomthing like wdt

 

Are you on AD?

 

Id talk to someone that has experience admining windows.

Nope, I'm not on an AD. Users have admins so they can instal software and other needed application. Deep freeze sounds nice. WDT i cant google, can you give the full name of that software? 

 

What's more I need that solution to be fast. So when we run a tournament next team can sit down and start to prep in a few minutes.

Few more ssd and internal 2.5 hotplug enclosure in every pc (two in main pc). Then made image of every system (many programs for that - I recommend Macrium Reflect) and restore it after big modifications. Why more ssd? So you can insert drive with previously restored system in any pc without any delay and then restore system to drive that is not currently in use.

 

This however costs some money. But is fastest (just replacing drive and boot).

wdt = windows deployment toolkit

 

Get rid of admin from people, and install stuff they need. Thats how you keep people from screwing stuff up.

 

Doing a reimage in a few minutes isn't something you can easily do. If you need it that fast and can't remove admin, do something like network boot to a new snapshot for everyone.

 

But really, remover admin from everyone, it will get rid of almost all of these problems. You don't need admin to run games.
