Hi there

Im going to build a new pc and was wandering what cpu to use.

The pc is going to be used as gaming pc, but it will also be used as a streaming server.

Have been lokking at the threadripper 2920x or 9900k, or maybe something else?

Im wandering whether the 4 extra cores will be a good choice when both gaming and streaming at the same time.

Or is the 9900k perfektly fine for both gaming and streaming?

Thanks in advance.

A 3700X would be a better choice than either in my opinion. Almost identical gaming performance, more cores for better streaming performance and way cheaper than both the Intel and the Threadripper to boot.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

depends on the price you're paying (CPU and board). 2920X is not good for super high frame rates when you're not streaming though

threadripper is out of the question here, no point going for threadripper(motherboard is expensive, extra pcie lanes/memory lanes are not needed, single core perf is shit so gaming will be impacted)

3700x and 9900k are much better options here, they are perfectly fine for streaming+gaming. If you really want a superb gaming+streaming experience then 3900x is probably a good choice too.

What is your budget and location? We might be able to help with other parts as well

if you can afford a 9900k, 3900x should be in budget slightly slower gaming performance, but more cores for streaming and gaming, if it's never in stock, then go with the 3700x.

Thanks for the pointers, i will look a little bit more at 9900k and maybe 3900x if i choose to run with extra cores.

Maybe i will give ryzen a try after many years with intel.

Im from Denmark, and here the ryzen is only about 50 usd more, thats fine for me.

I really dont have a budget, i could go way higher if it was necessary, but theres no reason to buy something i will never fully use.

Thanks a lot peeps

I keep wanting to try team Red, but for my next SFF build I need the integrated graphics which none of the high end Ryzen 3's have :(

So will probably go with 9900k.
