Ryzen 2700X or 3700X?

I thought that I made up my mind which way to go on a new build but with the 2700X dropping down to $200 and the 3700X still at $330-$360 and unavailable on Amazon I'm not sure which CPU to get. I did even see the 3800X drop down to $390 on Amazon. What do you guys think? Save the money and get the 2700X for $200? Wait for the 3700X at $330 or splurge and get the 3800X at $390? I'm running an Asus ROG Strix X570 gaming E mobo.

I have a 2700x and it's fine. The performance per watt is better on the 3000 series, but it's not a drastic change in performance. 10% maybe? You're definitely in the land of diminishing returns spending 75% more on the 3700x for only around 10% more performance, but you're on an x570 board already so the BIOS stuff won't be an issue like it can be running 3000 series on B450/x470 boards.

with 160$ difference, its a lot for just 10% performance, i say get 2700x if it's available. eventually 3000 will get discounted.

For gaming performance, there is no real difference. I went from the 1800x to 3700x and didnt see much improvement in games, 5-10% at most, which isnt much when you're looking at high frames rates already with a 2080ti at 1440p.

3000 series's advantage is mostly seen at 1080p with current graphics cards tbh

 

but I wont buy a 2700X among 2nd gen CPU's, I'd buy the 2700. The board you have is way overkill though

If you're not in a hurry wait a month for Black Friday. Either way, you'll save money.
