So some time ago i purchased two ROG Asus Rampage Extreme 3 motherboards, and the one i currently have in my system is the one of the two that had been proven working, both bought from the same person having only used said motherboard for a little bit as he had little time and could only get it to behave once (it was owned before him by a hardcore gamer who had used a liquid cooling system then sold it off when he got something better). As for the other it was kept in storage.

Anyway the problem i face is that when i try make the system boot, it gets stuck scanning for Ram, as you may know it has indicator lights, CPU, RAM, VGA, Boot Device, ect, in that order.

Ive tried multiple different sticks of Ram that have been proven working, all of which failed to start the computer past that point. That and the cpu pressure issue ive hear about being so popular with x58s, ive gotten that out the way.

Me and the previous owner have a shared issue of having it only behave once, or in my case, twice, once when it booted the first time, then i changed the ram, went through the usual wait for the system to auto adjust, then thats when it started. I even changed back to my old ram and it still wouldnt work, and yet the second time i got it to work i managed to get into the bios and fix the ram issue to an extent, then tried to boot into windows and it just froze for maybe an hour during trying to recover itself.

I'll give the specs and details of their origin and some backstory to help.

Cpu - i7-950

My dad bought it for me as a little gift and i kept it in storage for a small while so i could find an x58 board 'cheap-ish'. It was preowned as far as i understand but decently packaged, but i suspect it may have some involvement

Motherboard - Asus Rampage 3 Extreme

You already know about where i got it, but this is one of two, i only tested the other once and it didnt detect the cpu at all so i put it away. As for mine it did work for a bit as you know and poof.

GPU - Two tested:

Asus Radeon HD 7970

(The one i want to run)

Saphire Radeon HD 6850

(Tested in order to remove the power requirement issue that couldve been present, but no, same problem, and the PSU works in every other system of mine just fine)

SSD - Gigabyte 120GB

Not much to say here, very reliable, works in other systems easily

HDD - Hitachi 2TB

Wasnt plugged in after trying to fix problem so i doubt relevant, but its been very reliable and again worked in other systems

PSU - Aerocool Intergrator ATX 600W

Yeah i know Aerocool is a bit budgety but its worked well for me for a while, still works in other systems, even had a good enough power output to handle the 6850 yet didnt go all the way, so no longer considered an issue (Will replace with Corsair or Evga 750w or 850w soon)

Space for editing in more info for future referance if need be:

TLDR - My board gets stuck on finding Ram so it wont post, PSU isnt considered an issue due to testing with minimal parts and checking loads on cooler master website, has had problem for a while potentially fault of cpu, if you figure it out you get a cookie ?

This has really been bugging me for maybe 4 months now and ive tried everything i could find, know, or do about it, even go as far to try get in contact with asus themselves (that didnt work out how i expected) so i really hope that someone with a fresh perspective on the problem can help me out, so not to sound corny, but fellow PC builders, i salute you!

Have you tried, once in bios, if you can get in, to restore bios to "safe defaults" or something like that, not defaults, there's another option, I think it's "safe defaults"?
If you can't get to bios, try one stick into furthest white slot, if not, try another stick into same slot, if not, try in middle white slot, etc.
You might need 2 boots pass post for the mobo to adjust itself.
Also check bios battery, maybe.
