Just a theory but mainly lower-end speakers are not as good protected against interference. Radio waves like from a radio sender but also from the microwave and such can be picket up by the cable and therefore give unwanted noise on the speaker. When you have a radio station nearby its even possible to get music trough your speakers when its not even connected to a audio source.
