I'm not really sure what exactly to put here so I'll give you a breif decription of my problem and a few of my specs. If you need any more info please ask.

I bought a used 1080ti strix on ebay a month ago. It looked in great condition but it would crash after a short time in any game unless I underclocked it with msi afterburner. The seller said he had never experienced this and he seemed pretty genuine. In game performance is on par with what the 1080ti strix should be out of the box. Recently, I have discovered (through unlinking power limit and max temp) that it crashes only when it reaches 1000mv. This happens whether the card is at 50C or 90C (I previously expected it was something to do with the thermals). The power supply is brand new.

My specs are as follows:

i7 9700k

Asus 1080ti Strix OC

Aorus Z390 PRO

EVGA 750 P2

Any ideas on what might be causing this and how to fix it? Of course I can always return, but then there's the risk the seller could claim I broke it and I will only recieve a partial refund. Thanks in advance.

First thing that comes to mind is maybe a bad BIOS or bad shunt mod if they were so risky as to try one.

I'll look over the internals of the graphics card soon, but as for the BIOS is there a way to confirm if its bad or fix it? I'm currently running the lastest F10 firmware on it.
