Is there any Blu-Ray movie playing software that's not junk or overly expensive?

Hi there,

 

So I still prefer physical media for my movies and TV shows, but I would prefer playing them on my computer instead of a dedicated player like I'm currently doing. All of the free players that I tried are pure junk and the commercial ones have the audacity of charging more than a physical Blu-Ray player when they don't even supply the hardware, hell, some even ask for a yearly subscription!!

 

Is there any that I have missed that don't fall under these criteria?

IF you want to try, it is possible to get VLC to play bluray discs with some steps:

VLC is a good media player, no obnoxious ui or anything, and it's free.

Your pc does need a physical bluray disc player though, a dvd player isn't the same thing.

Ya, I tried a couple of tricks with VLC in the past, results were mixed.

That method also works with kodi (you would only need the keys file as it already has the dll file) although I'm guessing that this won't work with disc that use BD+ encryption.

 

The other way is to get anydvd which allows you to decrypt for playback or to rip the whole disc (this is pay for software, but it is a lifetime license).

 

You do need a BD drive which you can get cheaply on ebay for an internal unit.
