Need advice on how to handle algea in my loop

CiBi

Hey all

So i built a new watercooling loop a few weeks back (6-7) and yesterday I noticed a slymie white foam at the top of my reservoir. Can't have been there for more than a day or something now.

Upon closer inspection with a flashlight I think is see some small green dots at the darker bottom of my reservoir as well.

My conclusion is that somehow algea or some other microorganisms started growin in my loop. I don't know how they got there, all parts where brand new, i flushed the radiators as well and I filled the loop with demi water + the EK clear cryofuel concentrate or whatever its called.

Now at first I was planning on tearing down the whole loop this weekend, clean all the parts, replace the tubing and then refill it but maybe add some antifreeze as well since the EK stuff clearly doesn't do the job.

My question however is, since I kind off want to putt off all that work for a bit longer if possible, is if anyone can give me tips on how I could attempt to kill the organisms, flush the loop and then refill without tearing it down. What product should I use to attempt this? I've been reading about antifreeze and Listerine as options to kill the organisms.

My loop is primochill tubing, copper+acetal cpu block, nickel+acrylic gpu block, D5 pump with acetal top and acetal+plexi reservoir. I assume the acrylic and nickel are quite sensitive to anything that could kill the organisms am I right here?

Honestly, it doesn't sound like algae or bacteria to me the way you describe it. A photo would be appreciated.

In the first photo you see the foam/slime

in the second photo you see the ‘green stuff’

edit: pictures are reversed

Doesn't look like algae to me. Probably a not entirely rinsed and flushed loop with some chemical residue. Especially radiators can have A LOT of gunk in them even fresh from the shelf.

Some more pics after dissassembly

I find some green residue, looks like it could be copper oxidizing?

second to last pic is my pump top

And in my last pic you see some white residue in the gpu block as well

Not algae for sure, the reservoir is from coolant residue because you didn't fill it all the way and so water evaporated leaving the active ingredients on the surface. The greenish gunk could be plasticizer related or from a dirty radiator.

Thx, that is good news. I’ll make sure to flush everything thoroughly and I should be good.
