Hey guys,

I 'accidentally' just bought 30 seagate white label 450gb sas2 harddrives for 30€.

Now I kinda need a moderately priced solution to get them to work, as I'm probably only gonna use 8 of them I would need some 4 or 8 bay nas with SAS 2 compatibility.

Has anyone something in mind for that case, I would be very happy if the costs would be under 100€.

The onlt thing i c,an think of is backplanes that support SAS drives then connect them to a SAS RAID controller or HBA.

Yeah, thats the way i also thought it would work the best and cheapest.

Maybe i find some older workstation or microserver with sas bays.

For case, you could just find some that accepts as many disks as you need.

I'm still rollin' with old CM Stacker 830, where I had a total of 13 drives inside (most were 2.5" though).

So, cheapest solution is something like that, and for SAS controller something like LSI 9260-8i (that's enough).

You then just need SAS cables to connect.

Can you give me a recommendation for the sas cables, I can't seem to find the right ones that aren't priced with like 50 dollars a cable.

With LSI 9260-8i, I'm using these cables (e-bay link), and they work fine.

You can connect them to SAS disk, but they also work with SATA drives too.

Looks good does the card and the cables support the higher speed of 15k7 drives?
