Noob Monitor advice

Hi guys

I currently have a cheapy none IPS Phillips 1080p 60hz 24" monitor and looking to upgrade. I'm a single-player gamer I dont ever play online, multi-player or competitively in any way. Should I opt for a 144hz 1080p monitor or stick with 60hz but get something higher resolution/image quality like 1440p?

I have a GTX 1060 6G AMD 2600X 16G ram.

i play a lot of competitive shooters so 144hz is a must, but i also play a lot of single player games and it is a big difference there too, everything is so smooth. As with most tech it depends on what you want, depending on what game it is you might not hit 144fps with a 1060, but you might not also hit 60fps at 1440p. A gtx 1060 will be about 50> fps in most games at 1440p, i've only tried it in stores but it does look quite a bit better
