I’m trying to help a friend build a gaming rig, but I haven’t built in over a year and need some help choosing parts

He wants to run a MineCraft server, and play 1080p High/Ultra  settings (but would like to hopefully go to 1440p or 4K on decent settings later with minimal upgrades) on games such as Borderlands 3, GTA V, Civ 6, R6S, Rocket League and CS:GO. I watched a video of bios flashback on B450 boards and read an article about the upcoming R5 3500x so I was wondering if I could have some review on the specs list I’ve come up with (if I’m breaking any rules, sorry, this is my first post here). His budget is roughly 1000 CAD for the pc + a mouse

cpu - Ryzen 5 3500x - ~200

mb - MSI B450A Pro - 120

ram - Team Vulcan 2x8gb 3200mhz - 90

gpu - XFX Radeon RX 5700 - 450

ssd - Intel 660p 1.02TB m.2 - 130

case - NZXT H500 - 100

psu - Corsair RM650x - 130

mouse - redragon mammoth - 30

total - 1250 cad

ideally he’s gonna try to pick up some parts during Black Friday, but I’d like to try and make it cheaper. Huge thanks to anyone who took time to read this and reply.

That looks good to me. If you want it cheaper just keep an eye out for parts every day and see if company’s have a discount code if you’re like a student or something like that.

I’m thinking of going cheaper on the case, but I’m not sure how other cases are to build in, what are some cheaper easy to build in ATX cases if you know?

Take the 3600 instead of the 3500X, the 3500 (X and non-X) are basically just the 3600 with SMT disabled

As for case, consider the Fractal Design Meshify C. Awesome airflow, plenty easy to work on and usually cheaper than the H500

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600  Heatsink: ID-Cooling Frostflow X GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 6GB RAM: KLEVV Bolt 3600Mhz (2x8GB) Mobo: ASUS B550-F ROG Strix (Wifi)  Case: Fractal Design Meshify C PSU: Deepcool DQ-M-V2L

I appreciate the suggestions, but that increases the price by 100$, and I’m trying to bring it down

You could always go with like a r7 2700. It’s still a great cpu, and only falls behind in high FPS situations. Or you could drop down to a 2060. They should be available pretty cheap since the 2060 supers came out.
