Logitech has agreed to make the acquisition of Streamlabs for a reported $89 million, adding streaming tools to Logitech's gaming offerings.

Logitech has agreed to acquire Streamlabs, which makes the popular live streaming app Streamlabs OBS, for approximately $89 million in cash. The pairing seems like a natural fit, as Logitech already makes widely-used gaming peripherals and streaming gear.

Streamlabs OBS already helps streamers set up their streams, track donation alerts, set up stream overlays, follow their chats, and more. Logitech makes popular gaming and streaming peripherals like keyboards, mice, and webcams, and owns Blue Microphones, a frequent mic choice for streamers, so owning Streamlabs should, in theory, should make for better integration with all of its hardware already used by streamers.

Following the news, Logitech GM and VP of Logitech G as well as Streamlabs' CEO commented over on the Logitech website:

Quote

Ujesh Desai, general manager and vice president of Logitech G, commented: “We’ve been fans of Streamlabs and their software since we started partnering with them over two years ago. Their industry-leading software is complementary to our existing gaming portfolio, and we believe we can do even greater things together.”

Ali Moiz, Streamlabs’ chief executive officer, said: “Streamlabs and Logitech both share a strong passion for gaming and a dedication to serving the global community of gamers and streamers. Joining with Logitech allows us to keep doing what we love and be bolder than ever on a much bigger stage.”

I find it cool that Logitech have acquired Streamlabs. This sounds similar to how Corsair acquired Elgato. Logitech & Streamlabs sounds like a perfect pairing as now Logitech can integrate their peripherals into Streamlabs software and potentially hardware. Awesome stuff.

Logitech haven't been shy about acquiring companies, as they earlier in this decade purchased Jaybird audio, whom are very successful with the release of their Jaybird Vista wireless earphones. Hopefully Streamlabs will share the same success in the hands of Logitech.

Doubtful, their focus is Gamers and Streamers, which is 98% Windows users. If Linux was more mainstream in the Gaming and Streaming scene possibly but it's just not a big enough user base.

Hopefully they don't continue the tradition of great hardware and terrible software.

Assuming you are talking about SLOBS on linux, I would try regular OBS studio w/ streamlabs overlays.  You get to use all of OBS's features (SLOBs cuts quite a few) and they recently added twitch chat preview.

Considering what a clumsy garbage new Logi G Hub is, I wouldn't hold my breath. Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) was super. It worked well, everything was laid out logically and it was easy to use. Installed Logi G Hub for my G502 and my god it's retarded beyond usable. Stupid interface that feels like it was designed for touch control (which is ironic given what Logitech makes and sells the most), menus are absolutely idiotic and totally illogical, but have fancy animations and shit, On-Board profiles now all of a sudden have bunch of stupid limitations even though there were none on LGS for same things and managing said profiles is so clumsy. OH MY GOD Logitech, you went full retard with it. So, yeah, don't have your hopes high, Logitech might have the money, but they still managed to make almost the worst interface I've seen in my life...
