Help building a PC..

teorodz

I am in the process of building a new PC. Now, I dont really do gaming much but do play emulators from time to time.

I want my PC to be able to do this:

Netflix

XBMC

Rainmeter

Emulators

Just fast overall but not for Gaming. Is this possible? Or is building a PC like this just not worth it?

Will I be better off buying something like a Mac Mini? This for example: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007476KRY/ref=s9_simh_gw_p147_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1GPHGFAVCCAR6HD5VKPG&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846

This would be easily better than a mac mini.  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2MTum

Its got Intel HD Graphics for great netflix performance

Its got a quad core to handle pretty much whatever tasks you throw at it

Its got a SSD for blazing fast performance like instant opens and super fast startup

Its got a 2TB hard drive for extra storage

Its got a CPU cooler to ensure temperatures keep down

Its got a power supply that can allow you to upgrade this PC to a gaming PC at any time without changing anything else

Its got Windows 8.1 to give you the most up to date Windows Experience

Its got a Wireless network card so you can connect to your home wifi

Its got a good motherboard and high quality components to ensure a good lifespan

Its got 4GB of 1600mhz RAM, because thats all you really need.

Its got a full aluminium case made by Corsair, the Corsair 350D for great looks and upgradability.

EDIT: You can make the power supply a 450w, take the SSD out, get an i3 instead of an i5 and it will still be good :) it will be about $200 cheaper.

Exactly this.

You can also buy a chassis that takes a 2.5" drive, so you can use WD's Black2 drive and have a 120gb SSD and 1tb drive inside something that you can toss in your bag.

  • 1 month later...

Ok guys...I ended up buying a Lenovo H530s. I couldnt pass it up for the price. The only problem that i have at the moment is the case. Its a mini tower pc. Can I just transfer all the internals to a new case? or is it not possible? If i can, which case do you recommend? Should I upgrade other things like a PSU? I have a GPU already. Thanks for the help guys..

Here are the specs:

  • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4440 Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)
  • Operating system: Windows 8 Standard 64 - English
  • Display: None - Desktop
  • Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4600
  • Memory: 6GB (2GB & 4GB) PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz SDRAM UDIMM Memory
  • Hard Drive: 1TB, 7200RPM Serial ATA 2.5" Hard Drive
  • Optical Drive: DVD Recordable Serial ATA
