Game where the map is the whole of earth

lilc

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-02-04-ex-ubisoft-devs-are-recreating-the-entire-planet-using-drones

Ex-Ubisoft devs have founded an indie company called Pixyul and are using drones to map out the world and then put it in an action RPG called ReROLL

"Using small civilian drones, like the eBee mini-drone developed by senseFly, a partner of Pixyul, our intention is to drone source and recreate the entire planet one square kilometer at a time," the wildly ambitious new indie outfit explained. "These autonomous drones are equipped with small digital HD cameras and they map out the environment by taking thousands of pictures. These pictures are processed with existing 3D software to reconstructs the actual environment as 3D objects. This data and these 3D objects will generate the game's environment or in video game terms, the level design"

This is to ambitious to believe, what are your thoughts?

Interesting.... Too bad the game will probably be MASSIVE to install. They'll give you a 500GB WD external drive and that will be the install disk. lol

I don't have high hopes for this, but a 3D thing like this for GTA would be AWESOME. (Everyone could actually live in their real homes in GTA :D)

Why do they ruin concepts like this with point-and-click. First person would be so much better; if they want realism then make it how we see it!

If they want realism, they would make a simulator.

I think it's indisputable that point and click games of this nature are terrible.

This is very early proof of concept. I'm hoping if this does get made, it is changed.

Cool concept, bad execution. It's probably going to flop.

This would probably be the most expensive game to develop and will probably take a while to map the whole earth. BRICK 1 is ready in mid 2015 so it won't be releasing this year.

IKR. I feel like its comparable to someone making affordable, extremely powerful quantum computing chip, only capable of running Windows Vista.

Sounds like a redundant game but the concept is cool.

Did people actually expect this to be a 3d game?

Too ambitious, scan the world 1km^2 at a time... Just not practical, also would be breaking a lot of privacy laws in various regions. They would be better off using existing satellite data and 3D explorable regions.

Personally Outtera/anteworld looks more promising to me. Currently in playable alpha being developed as a side project. Re-creates the entire planet in a seamless 3D environment using detailed satellite data for topography and fractal calculations. It includes a goolge maps plugin for "gps" which allows you to explore the world and know where you are.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.
