xbox 360 wireless controller connect to pc via wire

is it possible to connect a wireless xbox 360 controller to a pc via a wire? I've seen wire that takes the port at the back of a wireless xbox 360 controller to a usb type a but have been informed that this is only for transfer for power and not transfer of data.

I think you need a battery and play+charge set for wired play:

EDIT: wait no.. That's still for wireless play. I seem to remember there were actually Xbox 360 controllers sold wired, instead of wireless. I think that is what needed (or a wireless adapter for the wireless Xbox 360 controller).

Wireless Xbox360 controllers will only work on PC with the wireless adaptor and can't be used with a cable.

You will have to either buy that along with the play and charge kit or a wired Xbox360 controller (which will be hard to find an official version unless you look on the used market or do a lot of digging).
