Arduino com port, node-red, access denied.

I've been using node-red to interface between an arduino 2560 mega and my windows 7 laptop.

I can upload code to the arduino no problem using the default arduino software.

Node-red, however, hasn't been playing ball. It has worked, briefly. Now I'm getting 'access denied'.

I'm aware that there can only be one connection active at a time. There is nothing else using the com port, only node-red.

I've experimented with various different things. Yes, unplugging and plugging in again, restarts of both node-red and the pc itself. Even disabled firewalls/antivirus.

Then, trying something I had tried several times before it started working, fixed seemingly out of nowhere. Which is the worst kind of fixed.

I had it running a simple program, sending a stream of data from the arduino so I could monitor it in node-red. I celebrated too early.

While running, suddenly access denied.

I'm at a loss here. I've tried everything but re-installing node-red.

If anyone has encountered anything similar, your help is much appreciated.

Alternatively, I'd have to look for alternative solutions. Not something I'm keen on doing.
