If you had a Yahoo email account between 2013 and 2016, ...A new settlement from a class-action lawsuit against Yahoo means those affected may be eligible for compensation, up to $358.80. Anyone who had an account between Jan. 1, 2012, and Dec. 31, 2016–and who is a resident of the United States or Israel–is a “Settlement Class Member,” meaning they may be entitled to a portion of the $117,500,000 settlement. The breaches resulted in the theft of information–including names, email address, phone numbers, birth dates, passwords, and security questions–from millions of users worldwide. The settlement offers two options: The first option is to get credit monitoring services for a minimum of two years, and the second is “Alternative Compensation,” meaning a cash payment up to $358.80, depending on how many people participate in the settlement. Only those who already have credit monitoring services, and intend to keep it for up to a year are eligible for the cash payment. Anyone trying to file a claim can do so, both online or by mail but must do so by July 20, 2020.


My Thoughts:
Basically free money for Yahoo users, however, having been part of several class action settlements myself, it should be noted you really shouldn't expect more than 1% of the money promised, so about $3.58. Regardless, if you've had a yahoo account and want a free lunch. This is definitely worth the 5 minutes it should take to fill out.

The yahoo claim requires you have credit monitoring already to opt for the cash. How are they treating multiple accounts? Can I just opt for the credit monitoring with one account and then opt for the cash on the others?

I dont think having multiple accounts makes you eligible multiple times because the damages are related to your personal information being leaked. Having it leaked the first times makes the other times sorta unimportant because the damage was already done. I mean it would be like if someone destroyed your car so it needed to be replaced but then someone else ran into your already destroyed car.

I'ma in the UK. My ISP were using Yahoo (so third party connection, not direct with Yahoo). And every site I had the email with has also been hacked. :(

Adobe, (just recently) Caffeepress, Malwarebytes... Yahoo the lot. Scum all of them.

Oh, I know the password. But as it was hacked (they allowed multiple automated bot tries brute forcing the account + leaks internally of systems) I've lost access to the account *multiple times*. I did actually successfully recover it at one point, to have it die again a year or two later. :(
