Hello everyone, I recently got a new ISP and with that a new wifi modem. I get 50Mbps down (what I hired) on all my devices except my main pc, which gets around 600Kbps down and ~5Mbps up.When I check wifi status it shows a speed of 144Mbps, like it's overshooting or something. And I also lose internet access every 2-3 minutes, which I get back with Windows diagnostics every time.

My guess is that it's a network adapter issue but I just haven't been able to fix it. I run Windows 10 1903 (not activated) on a tower, motherboard is an Asrock AB350 Gaming K4, I use a Netis WF2123 (802.11n) USB network adapter and the modem is a Technicolor CGA4233TCH3 (ISP provided).

I tried fixing the issue by changing my adapter's "Wireless Mode" property from IEEE 802.11b/g/n to IEEE 802.11b/g, which seemed to work, I got the 50Mbps down; but after like two minutes I lose internet access again. I can't get my computer connected via ethernet either, too far away (all my other devices work fine from here).

If anyone has any ideas on how I could fix this, I'd appreciate any help since I'm not too handy with network configs.

That could very well be the issue. Its not only a USB device, which are known to some times cause trouble, but your running 1903 on top of that. 1903 is known to have issues with some WiFi devices. Your WiFi adapter also is only single band.

I cant find info on that gateway. I found a model near the number, which points to it being a Docsis Cable Gateway. If thats the case and its a newer model, then it might support 5 Ghz. 5Ghz is your friend, because 2.4 Ghz in many areas is over congested and you have issues like you describe. Id get a new WiFi adapter that is PCIe and at least WiFi 5 standard.

Thanks for the input!

Is there a way to roll back from 1903 without an internet connection on that device? Would like to try that if possible before buying a new adapter.

As for the modem, it does support the 5Ghz band but it's behind a couple walls from here so it's less that great.

I used to use 5 Ghz behind 2 walls and it worked fine. Signal was not 100% but it was good enough. I always got my 75 Mbps connection at the time.

I dont know if you can roll back 1903. I no longer use Windows because 1903 refused to work with my previous computers network card. So when I built my new one I went to Linux. Also I know that 1803 looses support in October. Not sure if there is a version in between.

Alright, thanks, I totally regret updating to 1903, but oh well. Guess I'll get a PCIe adapter tomorrow and hopefully it'll work.

Lastly, any ideas on why windows says the down speed is 144Mbps when it's obviously not?  (it's actually ~50Mbps)

Because Windows show internal network speeds not internet speeds. Your current adapter is connected to the router at 144 Mbps. Which is kinda shit as the adapter is rated for 300 Mbps.

Right, thanks a lot for the help! Will update tomorrow when I get the adapter.

Cheers!
