Copied from a Reddit post I had made, first time posting so sorry if this formats horribly.

Just got a new hard drive and plugged it in

When I tried to partition it the drive didn’t show up. After a quick reboot I checked the bios and saw it was recognized, opened up device manager and it was there as well, but never has it been in Disk Management.

I have tried multiple sata slots and have the current drivers, seatools doesn’t even detect it.

I was able to use diagnostics in the bios (There were 2)

The first one said that I had failed but I didn't believe it, in the second program it ran perfectly smooth and completed all short tests I can do including a DST which I saw a fail for in the first program. Upon further inspection I saw that it was my already installed drive that had some problems.

Screen shot of device and disk managers : https://imgur.com/a/Qv3GSU2

The properties tab is the one that I can’t get windows to detect. The partitions already there are a single 500GB drive parted out. I’m not sure why but I’m just testing this drive on a prebuilt as my current computer is dead.

It's a longshot, but there's one major thing you can try:

Live boot a CD with the Linux-based Gparted disk management and partitioning utility, boot it on a desktop with only that one new drive attached, and see if you can do anything to the drive or if it even shows up.

Also, check to make sure there are no jumpers attached to the fancy hidden extra pins on the back of your drive-- (most drives don't have jumper pins anymore) it's very rare but it can cause problems.

Not sure if I was doing it right but I downloaded the iso on a flash drive, and removed the boot drive(The drive I already had and the one that was being detected) and was left with a black screen with a cmd kind of look as there was a blinking underscore. I couldn't get it to boot and was only left was that.

Before I even bother telling you it's a GUI program, and that there are options for visual operation, you NEED to burn to a CD! Optical media was designed to be completely bootable in computers for a reason. Booting from USB is incredibly difficult even for someone with experience. Not to mention, there are dozens of ways of getting it wrong, and very few ways to do it right, which differ between software architectures.

Yeah I see now that I'm a complete idiot, after some looking around on the interwebs I now have put in the ISO with Rufus and It seems ready to boot, lets see if this works and or if I'm completely wrong on how to do this :P
