ATH-M40x is probably the best you can do with a detachable cable around that price point.

Personally, I'd look at the Sony MDR7506. Cable isn't detachable but is easy to replace.

Both can periodically be found for around $70USD.

If you can swing another $50s, the DT770 Pro are great or with a little shopping around you could probably find a used MDR7520, which is my favorite sub-$1000 closed back and has a detachable cable.

Ive heard that the m50x's are bad for their price, does that also apply to the m40x's?

The M50x are, %-wise, a fair bit more expensive and competing with, for example, the DT770, which is IMO a better headphone. Generally, the entire ATH-MxxX series are well reviewed and commercially successful, especially in the pro/studio space (probably only behind the MDR7506 and HD280), so not sure why you've heard they are bad for the price. The M40X is a better deal than the M50X with a flatter response, just a bit bass-y.

Im looking for a pair of closed back headphones, preferably bassy for about $50, Id like a removable wire and my main concern is durability/quality and Id like for it to last a long time without breaking. My budget is also flexible

The only pair I could find:

Probably gonna go with the ATH-M40x, thanks for the help

m40x aren't very bassy though... they lean towards a more neutral sound signature it does have a bump in the bass but isn't really a basshead can.  check out the takstar pro 82 should be similarly priced to the m40x but you can make them really bassy and much more comfortable stock than the m40x's

Yea, many reviews have said that the m40x is mostly flat, but Id prefer the build quality over bass. I actually used to have a pair of the takstar pro 82's until it broke after quite a few drops

I see. yeah it is build fairly well and you can always eq it or change out the pads to improve bass.
