Hey!
I just decided to finally make an account to the LTTForums in order to ask your guys' thoughts on my planned build upgrade.

I've got the build planned out in a pcpartpicker list. I'm planning on buying it in mid-october at the earliest and to have all the parts bought by maybe Christmas season at the latest.
I'd be grateful for any feedback whatsoever; whether it's fan placement, brand choice or spec choice.

I live in Germany and for accurate availability and pricing you'll need to change your country to Germany in the top right of pcpartpicker, also the two high-speed SilentWings 3s are to replace the AiO fans.
Here is the link, parts I already own and am carrying over from my current build are marked as purchased:

Replaced Intel with AMD.

Deleted 5 fans to just 2, 2 is enough, you're not making a vacuum cleaner.

Here's a link to most of the hardware in my tower atm, my main and only monitor is the BenQ one marked as purchased in the upgraded build.

Money-wise; I'm currently working full-time nightshift at a big company for 6 weeks before I start going to college in October. The amount of money I'll have earned will be substantial enough to where it's nearly a no-issue within reason. i.e. I didn't get a 2080 Super since the performance boost compared to several hundred euro price increase is so negligible (in my opinion at least).

Thanks, I actually looked into Ryzen, but was honestly somewhat worried about stepping out of my intel comfort zone for extra performance I might not even feel, if that makes sense?

In regards to the fans, the two high-speed ones were meant to replace the AiO fans with 3x120mm fans at the front as intakes and one rear 120mm exhaust, this may be overkill but also probably contributes some peace-of-mind cooling- and aesthetic-wise.

Well just start with slapping an RX 5700, then buy a better monitor, probably a 1440p 100-120hz ultra wide.

And then just grab an R7 3700X, as it's the best value higher end CPU right now. Faster RAM is going to be better for Ryzen in general, just check the motherboard's QVL list.

PCPartPicker Part List: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/rDqybX

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor  (€329.90 @ Caseking)
Motherboard: Asus PRIME X570-P ATX AM4 Motherboard  (€183.37 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory  (€92.99 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 8 GB PULSE Video Card  (€387.99 @ Mindfactory)
Total: €994.25

And probably just get the 011 dynamic for it's superior airflow compared to the case you have there.

After having watched the video on the 011, I personally find the fan mounting on it weird, and maybe even it's overall design. I can't quite put my finger on it.
I've never really looked seriously into ultrawides as the idea of using one myself seems somewhat bizzare to me.

I wrote in a comment above about my already looking into Ryzen, so I'll just steal that from past-me: "I actually looked into Ryzen, but was honestly somewhat worried about stepping out of my intel comfort zone for extra performance I might not even feel, if that makes sense?"

A similar sort of logic as with switching to AMD cpu-wise also applied when switching to them from Nvidia.

While I really do appreciate your efforts to save me money, this isn't meant to be a performance per dollar build, but pretty much me splurging a bit while I can and buying my self an absolutely top-end rig for my usage of it (including decisions like maximum aessthetics and rgb).

Thanks for your help btw!

Considering you aren't going for a 9900K and like a 2080 super, the Ryzen CPU and Navi GPU are going to give you the same performance for less money, so it really makes no sense not to go for them IMO.

The GPU is right next to a 2070/super for less money typically.

And the R7 3700 has better multi-threaded perfromance for anything but gaming, and can get some decent gains with fast memory, close the now like 10-15% gap to intel in gaming.

I've looked some more into my Ryzen build and saved a potential one again, though I still think I'll probably stick with Intel and Nvidia.

The main point is saving money with perfectly fine bits of hardware, like the 3700X has the same performance, and the ASUS Prime is fine for the 8 core CPUs.

Also you really don't need more than 16GBs of RAM for just gaming.

Especially on the, the 5700 is like $300 less, and has 85-90% of the 2070 super's performance, plenty for 1440p 144hz in any event.

So I looked some more into it and made this potential build, locally the 5700XT would be 200 Euros cheaper than the Asus 2070 Super/s I was looking at. Would there be anything special to consider when switching to AMD both CPU and GPU wise for me?

There's no benefit on going all AMD, it's up to you.

CPU and GPU work independently.

Yeah, I know, I just didn't feel like making all different flavors of combinations (like Intel, Nvidia; Intel, amd; amd, Nvidia; amd, amd) in seperate part lists.

Thanks though!

1. 3800X is pointless. Get the 3700X, will perform similar when overclocked and that cooler can easily handle it.

2. No need to spend this much on the mobo. If you want to stick with x570, get the Asus TUF GAMING WiFi or if you want something that has better aesthetics get the Gigabyte AORUS ELITE or the MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE. This way you will save a 100 bucks.

3. I understand quad channel but you don't really need more than 16 GBs of RAM for just gaming.

4. Sabrent Rocket will perform similar in gaming for half the price. 970 Evo Plus is just not a thing for gaming. It is used for professional purposes like working with huge file sizes are the cases where you benefit from it.

5. 3700X paired with the 5700 XT is a sweetspot for 1440p and will also handle streaming/recording better than thr 9700K because of hyper-threading. Also if you don't want RTX then 5700 XT gives the performance of a 2070 SUPER for much less and is a wise decision you have made.

6. 750W is not needed to power this setup. Get a 550W RMx, will be more than enough.

Consumer mobo 2 channel only, no such thing as quad channel. Maybe in HEDT or server.

yes, populating all slots may not be good. some motherboard cannot work with high speed in all slots.

As long as your CPU cooler has AM4 support you should be good.

If you must have 32GBs then get a 2*16GB kit. Ryzen loves it's memory speed, and Ryzen 3000 has a highly improved memory controller.

4 sticks is going to be harder to run at higher speeds.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Sorry for the late reply, I was busy.
I've looked through the incredibly helpful comments you guys left, and am now leaning more towards a 3700X with that MSI Mobo Blind X suggested as well as the Sabrent Rocket rather than the 970 Evo Plus. In addition I've switched from 4x8GB to 2x16GB, but I'm still keeping my nice, fancy TridentZ sticks. Though with the max ~500W pcpartpicker estimates this system to draw I'm gonna stick with the 750W PSU in order to have a nice bit of breathing space upwardsfor less than 10 bucks more. I'll probably also stick with the 2070 Super, partially because I do sort of want RTX, but I may still change my mind on that. My choice of GPU will probably depend quite a bit on availability when I choose to build the system. 2070 Super prices are somewhat unstable locally atm due to limited availability, with them constantly being out of stock.

Here's the currently most probable build: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/user/Silas18301/saved/YJwf99

Thank you all massively for your help! If anyone thinks of anything new, please don't hesitate to comment, but for now you were all extremely helpful!
