so i'll start off with what's wrong with my phone. i'm constantly getting an error message saying "android.process.media keeps stopping". I've tried several steps to fix it and one site i found online mentioned the problem may be caused by a corrupted photo or file. so i tried to go in and delete all the photos and videos that i recently downloaded. Turns out what ever is wrong with my phone also won't let me delete anything. So i figured if i could at lease connect my phone to my computer i could delete the files that way or transfer all my data to my PC and do a factory reset on my phone.

now my problem is getting my PC to recognize that my phone is plugged in. i went in on my phone and told it to allow file transfer through USB (using the factory cable that came with the phone) and i've tried multiple USB ports on my PC. my computer makes a sound when i connect my phone, but i can't get my phone's drive to show up under "My PC".

PLEASE HELP!!

i have a google pixel XL and running windows 10 on my PC.

Does your device appear under Device Manager? If it appears with a generic name and/or a yellow question mark as the icon you likely don't have the drivers installed. Windows 10 is supposed to download these for you, but if it didn't work that'd be pretty par for the course. Look up Pixel XL drivers and load em up. You should also install the ADB drivers and enable USE debugging in developer settings. This will allow you to run terminal commands from your computer on your phone. You'll also be able to run logcat and view the specific error behind the media process crash.

I've seen this problem remedied by using a different USB cable.  Have you tried that?

Just to clarify, did you go into the Developer Options and turn on debugging? I know you said you allowed transfer through USB but wanna double check that that's the option you did.

downloaded the ADB drivers. my phone still doesn't show up anywhere in device manager, the list does refresh itself when i plug my phone in but that's it.

https://9to5google.com/2018/01/15/how-to-enable-developer-options-google-pixel-2-android-basics/

Enable Developer options by following the instructions in the link. Then get to the debugging section and enable 'USB Debugging'. See if that works or not.
