Hey. I'm pretty much reviving my old thread, as I didn't do anything about it.

Old thread:

Anyways, I need a new PSU.

I suppose I should go for a bronze+ like Corsair CX450 / CX450M / CX550 / CX550M

But RM550x has this appealing "Zero RPM fan mode", tho it seems to be too much money for a 8 year old build.

I should probably be logical about it and just go for the bronze+, tho is there any other around CX450's price that can go silent?

(and I'll re-ask: 450W or 550W?)

Are you planning on upgrading the system?

Not really. I wouldn't say that the CX450 will be excessively loud either though, especially not in your system. Chances are you will probably never notice it.

Depending where you are maybe a Be Quiet Pure Power 11 will be not much more than the CX450? Check if that's available and how much it costs.

Your current system with a FX6300 + HX7770 requires maybe 200-250W. 450W would be fine, but if you decide to go with the RMx it starts at 550W anyway.

Nope, this is just a home media server.

Corsair CX450 = 55€

Corsair CX450M = 62€

Be Quiet Pure Power 11 400W = 57€

Be Quiet Pure Power 11 500W = 70€

Pure Power 11 400W seems the go ?

I have two PCs at home (1 for me and 1 for my kid).

In my PC I have a HX850i and in the kids PC it is a CX550M.

To be honest I can't really tell the different in noise level.

(Edit: Of course i haven't really pushed my kids PC very hard)

When buying a PSU it is better to be safe than sorry so I would say go for 550W
