Will the H110-M be compatible with the i5-9400f?

Go to solution Solved by TheSLSAMG,

No. Intel decided to break compatibility with 8th and 9th generation CPUs on 6th and 7th generation boards despite the sockets being physically identical, so updating the BIOS won't do anything to make it work.

Technically there may be a way to get it working, but it requires modification of BIOS files and potentially physical modifications. It's not worth it for a 100-series or 200-series locked board.

According to my exhaustive research (3 min) it will work with the B360M, buut, can I just slam that b*tch in there? Or do I need an 8th Gen cpu to update the bios, that would be a problem, as I'm upgrading from the i3 6100

You'll be better of with a B450 motherboard and the Ryzen 5 3600... price wise is about the same but the R5 3600 is a processor that outperforms even the i5 9600K on about anything.

You need BIOS version 1405 (assuming you're talking about the ASUS B360M-A), which may not be on the board out of the box. This is the case with all B360 boards, but your board may ship with the required BIOS. There's not much of a way to know without getting the board in-hand and trying it out. Some boards may have a sticker on them somewhere with the BIOS version, but I don't know how common that is.

If you need to update the BIOS, you can try going to a local PC shop and seeing if they would be willing to do it for you.

It's the gigabyte one, the B360M DS3H, I guess I'll just have to have some faith, otherwise I'll just ask for an 8th Gen one. Thanks a lot
