upgraded processor, new cpu detected on every boot, memory running only with limited frequency

Hi,

I tried to upgrade my system (motherboard ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0) to the best processor it supports (AMD FX-8370).

Now with this processor I get the info "new cpu detected press F1 ..." on every boot. Switching back to the old processor (AMD FX-6350) it asks once and then boots without. I've googled and seen that it could be the Battery (checked it, it shows a little more than 3V) or the BIOS (I have the latest version installed => 2501).

The second problem is that the new processor won't run with all RAM modules on the expected frequency (1600) it slows down to under 1333. I have two sets of two modules of 4 GB each (16GB all in all). If I run only one set it runs at expected speed (with both sets) but as soon as both sets are in the system it doesn't run the frequency.

I've tried for both problems to switch back and forth the processor and every time with the new CPU I have the trouble and with the old one everything works fine.

Anything I can try?

Broken CPU (I bought it second hand)?

thanks a lot,

Karl

Hi.  Did you find a solution to this? I am stuck with a very similar problem with the same mobo.

Everything works perfectly with a Phenom II X4 945, but if I change the CPU to a Phenom II X6 1055T or a FX8350 X8 it always boots with the "new CPU detected" message.  All CPUs work ok in another mobo.

Also, it appears that no memory works at slots B1 and B2, but the SPD detects them.

Have the same issue with a Sabertooth 2.0 here, it's been said before the top of the socket sometimes isn't perfectly flat and can cause this.

This is the link and maybe this will help someone with this problem: Solved! ASUS New CPU installed issue

That's actually normal.
If you changed the CPU, you changed the CPU and the system is working as it should. It's not going to "Remember" the last chip you had in it, only what's currently in use so each time you swap chips it will do that.
