I currently have an Asus GTX 1070 OC 8GB and three monitors on 1920x1080, and would like to upgrade sometime soon to 3x 4k monitors.

Now my gpu only supports 2x 4k monitors as nvidia specs state Maximum Digital Resolution 7680x4320@60Hz.

I am not interested in gaming in more than one monitor at all, and I'm fine at 60Hz refresh rate and 60fps, and I use three monitors for work / multitasting.

Question:

Should I get a second gtx 1070? Do I need to setup SLI? Can I just plug in a cheaper GPU for the third monitor? All help and tips are welcome :)

On the nvidia forum someone said that the gtx 1070 would support 3x4k, but then I don't understand the specs.

All help appreciated! Cheers!

You just need 3 display ports, or 2 + 1 HDMI 2.0.

My RX 580 could support 4 4K display outputs.

"7680x4320@60Hz"

is equal to 4 4k displays

If you want to test it you can hook up multiple outputs to the same monitor and make an NV surround thing.

I'd wait for big Navi before upgrading, either it'll be great or nvidia will drop prices on the 2070 super anyways.

Or grab a cheap RX 5700 and just run 4k medium-high or upscale from 1440p using their new upscaling tech. it's about equal to a 1080ti for $350 if you flash the bios on a dual bios card.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Hi Streeguru,

I wouldn't be looking into upgrading GPU unless I had to.

I must admit you've lost me on that last sentence.

4k medium-high? Is that game graphic settings?

"upscale from 1440p" I don't understand this sentence/expression :P

If I would like to play for example Sea of Thieves on 4k at 60 fps with great graphics, while having two other monitors on 4k as well for multitasking... what would be recommended? Or if I would like 3 4k screens then I will always get frame drop?

Thanks for the help! :)

Greatly appreciated!
